The weatherman the past week has
been very favorable with good wea-
ther till Saturday when another down
pour of rain was experienced, and
it has rained practically every day
since. The farmers who are not so
fortunate ne to have their spring
crops hi, are beginning to be some
what alarmed as the season is so rap
idly advancing, and by the amount
of ram that has already fell this we-,
ek, it will take nearly another week'
with nice weather, to make the land
fit for cultivation,
Mother's Day and Go -To -S. School
Day exercises were. greatly enjoyed
by an overflowing attendance through,
out the day at Emanuel Evangelical

from near and far gathered at the
parental .a
tel home and with other friends
to spend an enjoyable, reminiscent
day recounting the happy experiences
of former days around the family
hearth. "Moine, Home Sweet Home,
There's no place like Home" The
boys and girls of the Primary and
Junior S. School delighted the aud-
ience as did the choir with their mus-
ical numbers.
MAITLAND RIVER POWER DEV-
ELOPMENT NOT ECONOMICAL
Hay Township Council has been
furnished by the Hydro Electric Cam
mission with an estimate of cost of
developing power on the Maitland.
The enginest• finds the mrnhnu n flow
to be 75 cubic feet per second, equiv-
alent to 54,5 h.p. By increasing the
pondage gc Stine! hooding 5000 acres con -
Urinous power available would be ap-
proximately 1450 h. p. This would
cost $650,000, or equal to $615 per
h.p. As the total possible develop-
ment is below the requirements of
Goderich alone,. the project is impos-
sible, for in addition to this estimate,,
must be added the :fulfillznetai; of the
contracts entered into by the munic-
ipalities with the Hydro Electric Ci,,.. i

Evangelical Church Notes
ZURICH — CANT..
God's Sanctuary.
The most important building in
town is not the railway station, de-
partmental store, school !louse, hos-
pital, library, all of which are good,
but we would have none of these if
it were not for the church. The
church is the concentration of those
forces and influences that Make life
greately worth while. You would
not purchase property in a community
where there is no church. It should
be the best loved building in the corn-
ninuity. The mini -try t Its. church
offers is indispensible. Now that sural
111(iris besore ,.,ti, the call of tho
out-of-doors is strong. There is tho
temptation to turn Sunday into a
holiday and to desert divine worship
for the temple of -datura. A great
army of ministers are looking ahead
with heavy heart as they anticipate
the out-of-door attractions that pull
people away from the services of wor-
ship and turn God's Sabbath into a
day of dissipation and frolic. Let us
play fair with God's all important
day. We are stewards of the treas-
ures of: His Kingdom of the soul, It
is a woeful word when you say good-
bye to the church for the summer.
