Mr: Martin Wurm was a Friday
visitor with his daughter, Mrs. Levy
at Clinton.
• Mr; Lous Schumacher: of Dashwood
made :a friendly call in the village on
Monday.
Mr. J. Turner of'Clinton, was a vis-
itor. in town this week, also taking in
the funeral of the late J. Decher, Jr.
Mrs. E. E. Weido, who spent the
pastweek visiting at Goderich and
Clinton, has returned to her hone.
Mrs.. Eickmeier of Broadhagen is
spending a few weeks visiting with
her son, Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Eickmeier
of the villoge.
The`sad news was received by tel-
egram on Sunday, of the death of
Harold, the 14 -year-old son of Mr.
and Mrs. Win. H. Bender of Detroit
and former ly • of Zurich.
A few real estate deals of very
much importance were. transacted
during the past week as follows. Mr.
Wellington J. Johnston of the village
has, purchased from Mr. Ev. Haist the
.Dominion Hotel property and . will
continue in the ordinary hotel bus-
iness "and give acoomodation to the
public, which is a' great asset to a
village like Zurich, and we know Mr.
Ji'.11 will.conduct this business
ora ;tical vway, as he was
practically raised in this same house,
or his family had possession of the
seine .for a goodly number of years.
We wish Mr. and Mrs. Johnston ev-
ery success in their' new business
venture. Mr. Henry Walper of the
Parr Line, has exchanged his dwel-
ling property in town, next to the
Zurich Bakery, to Mr. Sol. Schrader,
his neighbor for Mr. Sshroeder's
farm bein Lot 21 and pt lot 22, con-
sisting of 133 acres, while Mr. Fred
Regaer of the Goshen Line south; has
purchased the west 40 acres of this
farm from Mr. Schroeder, possession
in both cases will be given on April
lst. Mr. Schrader is looking around
for another suitable farm, but will
hold his property in Zurich for the
time being.
Late John A. Decher, Jr.
In the passing of John Albert
Decher, Jr., on Saturday, March 2ud,
1929, aged 49 years, 9 months, and
4 days, Hay Township as well as the
entire community, loses one of its out
standing citizens. Always a willing
hand to anyone in need, and cheerful
and kind to everybody was his big
motto in life. The late Mr. Decher
was known asone of Western Ontar-
io's foremost breeders of Standard
bred horses, and in attending the
large National Fairs, with his stable
of horses, nearly always swept every-
thing n his line, 'so consequently he'
made a success of this ling. of busin-
ess as few make it. Was a very pro-
gressive farmer, and was on the ex-
ecutive beard of the Zurich Agricult-
ural Society for many years., What
was known as a very strong and
hardy constitution was broken up the
last 'six months by sarcona ravages,
and despite of whate medical aid
could do, he sucumbed to this disease
on Saturday, much to the regret of
his many warm bosom friends. He is
survived besides his sorrowipg widow
Clara Rader, by four daughters: Mrs.
Morley Witmer, of Detroit; Mrs.
Theo. Steinbach, Alice and Vera
Decher at home. His father, Mr. J.
Decher, Sr., of Zurich; one brother,
Mr. Wm. Dechei of Hay Township;
four sisters: Mrs. Roy Merner, Mrs.
Wilfred Weido and Mrs. Ernest
Rader of Hay Township, and Mrs. L.
Rader of the Town Line, Stephen; al-
so one grandchild, The funeral took
place from his late home, Gosen
Line, Hay, to the Lutheran church for
service, thence. to the Lutheran cem-
etery for interment. His Pastor, Rev
E. Tuerkheim officiating. The fun-
eral being orie of the largest ever held
in the cornintinity, and this attendance
andthe massive flower tributes be-
speak for themselves of the high es-
teem: the departed .was held in. The
bereft family have the most sincere
sympathy of the entire community
in the loss of their father.
