CHAPTER :XIII.
BASQUES BEWILDERED.
With a rattle of hoofs they thun-
dered across the wooden bridge Bodine
had built over the Webster. But even
before they were out of sight an echo
of the calamity that hal befallen

the barrier between the two creeks.

ried his men behind them. This ac-

utes without having seen a sign of
an enemy.
