New Years Day passed off. very`
quietly Here on,.. Tuesday,.• as there
was nothing of special attraetion to
creat anything special, We all
heard Fhc' bells ringing, and the. sho-
oting of guns, and the usual commot-

pose it was a fitting way to usher in
the New Year. And we hope it will
be a most blessed one to one and all

NOMINATIONS
What seemed like a real old time.
ra11y of a nomination was experienc-
ed in the town hall, Zurich en Mon-
day afternoon, when the large and
spacious hall was filled to capacity to
see what was going to happen, and
the eloquent orations of some of the
nominees was admirable and took
well with the attendance, -we would
like to make special mention of Mr.
Owen Geiger, of Hensall, who was
nominated for the reeveship, of Hay,
and who has a remarkable record as
well as experience in the municipal
matters, from the village of Hensall.
But as Mr. Geiger; we understand, is
again contesting for reeve in Hensall,
his nein° will not appear e,n the Hay
Township ballot. It sure looks as if
the ratepayers wanted to see an elec-
tion as no less than four were nom-
inated for reeve, andnine for counc-
illors. On Wednesday noon was the
last hour set to qualify, and our local
Clerk, Mr. Hess advises us that the
following will be the election contest-
ants, For Reeve, L. H. Rader, and
W. E. Turnbull. For Councillors,
Wm. F. Alexander, Wm. R. Dougall,
D. Ducharme, S. Grey, Alfred Melick
John P; Rau, Alfred Reichert, and
Edmund Walper.
At the Zurich Pollee Trustee meet-
ing in the evening vix were nominat-
ed as •follows: 'The three former
Trustees, namely: A. Mousseau, J.
Liey, Jr., and Jul. Thiel; while three
new men were nomiated as follows:
Ed. Beaver, Con. Schilbe, and Josiah
Geiger. The Three latter ones were
the only ones qualifying, and as a
consequence will constitute the 1929
Police Trustee Board, Two of these
M.. Schilbe and Geiger having had
some experience, as they sat on the
board in 1926, and should :make ideal
men for the position.
