MERNER YELLOW FRONT STORE PHONE NO. 145 ITEMS OF LOCAL INTEREST Mr. Fred Thiel was a business vis- itor to Toronto the past week. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Smith and dau- ghter Mae, were Sunday visitors at Hensall. Mr. and Mrs. Ohler and daughter from Goderich were Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John England. Mr. and Mrs. George Holman, of Goderich, were visitors with Reeve and 14Irs. E. F. Kloppe-the past week. Mr. Holman is the popular Clerk of the County of Huron. The dates of the fowl suppers are rapidly coining along and in the matter of a few weeks they will all be a thing of the past. The first one in Zurich is on Thursday, October 18th, at St. Peter's Lutheran church, and then a week later on October 24, the Evangelical church will celebrate their similar big event. The fowl this year is on the average worth a- bout from three to five cents a pound more live weight, but we notice the various church societies are generous enough to the public and are asking the same prices for these sumptuous repasts, as in former years, and be- sides are going to some expense in furnishing more popular programs. The public will do well in. patroniz- ing these big events. ' October Rod and Gun Hunters and fishermen and all lov- ers of outdoor recreation will find plenty to interest them in October issue of Rod and Gun and Canadian Silver Fox News, Canada's sporting magazine which is just off the press. The contents of this issue .cover a wide variety of sporting activities. There are two fine grizzly bear hunt- ing stories, well written by two old- timers, A. Bryan Williams and Jos- eph Hodgson. Other articles cover moose hunting, duck and geese hunt- ing, all kinds of fishing, to say noth- ing of the regular outdoor features on outdoor lore, guns and ammun- ition, dogs and the silver fox indus- try, and three fine articles on bird life by well known authorities. In this issue there are also two good yarns by Harry M. Moore and E. A. Wood and an.other of Robert James' splendid series of "Tales from the Wardroom Mess".
