Mrs. C. Price of London, is visit-
ing with friends here.
What might have proven an even
more serious accident, took place on
the Bronson Line, Hay Township,
near the school house, when a trav-
eller of the National Grocery Co„ of
Stratford, was travelling along the
road at a high rate of speed on Tu-
esday night, and in losing control of
the car, it took to the ditch and in
doing so did considerable damage to
itself, one hind wheel being broken,
the fenders and body also suffered,
while about half of the glass is al-
so smashed. ;The car, which is al-
most a new Chevrolet Coach, is at
the garage of H. Mousseau, where it
will undergo repairs.

Mr. Thomas McMillan, M. P., of
Seaforth, called on a few of his fri-
ends here, one day recently.
Miss Pearl Durand, of Detroit, sp-
ent Sunday under the parental roof.
Mr, Napoleon Denomme of Detroit
was a week -end visitor at his home
here. He motored back to • the
city on Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Philip Denomme and Mrs.
Charles Laporte are spending a'dew
weeks in Detroit.
Mr. and Mrs. Zepher Charrette of
Detroit spent Sunday with the ratters
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willliam Du-
charme.
Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Corriveau and
Mrs. Fabian Corriveau all of De-
troit, were guests with Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Corriveau.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Denomme left
last week for the West, where they
intend to reside owing to Mr. Denom
me's health.
Mr. Joseph Laporte and son of De-
troit are visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
J. B. Laporte.
Mr. Leon Bedard and family, who
have resided near Bayfield on the
Stinson farm, have moved onto the
farm owned by Mrs. Victoria •Den-
omme, which Mr. Bedard has leased

Goshen United Church, when Rev
W. McDonald, of Egmondville, wil
preach at 11 a.m. and at 7 p.in. At
the morning service special music
will be furnished by the choir, and
at the evening services the music wil
be furnished by the Seaforth Male
quartette.
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Stephenson, of
Marlette, Mich., are visiting friends
in this vicinity, Mr. Stephenson's
mother, who has spent some months
at Marlette, returned with them and
will spend the winter months with
Mrs. Armstrong, of Clinton.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Campbell, and
daughter, and Mr. John Johnston, of
Brucefield„ spent Sunday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mc

Mrs. E. Johnson and son Wilbert,
of Goderich, visited on Wednesday
last at the home of Mrs. Robinson,
Sr.
Rev. Mr. Abery of Londesboro, ex-
changed pulpits with Rev. J. Pen-
rose last Sunday, and preached very
acceptably at Goshen, Blake and
Varna.
DASHWOOD
The annual Rally Day services of
the Evangelical Church, Dashwood,
will be held on Sunday, September,
30th, at 7.30 p.in. Besides a anis
cellaneous programme, Rev. A. W.
Sauer of Sebringville, Ont., will ren-
der a solo, and give the address of
the evening. All are heartily invit-
ed to enjoy this service.
Mrs. J. Kellerman is visiting in
Toronto.
Mr. Leonard Birk left for Guelph,
this week, where he will attend the
0. A. College.
Mrs. Finkbeiner and Cathern have
returned home after a few week's
visit in Sarnia.
Mr. Gardon Callfas of Sarnia,
visited his father on Sunday.
Quite a number from here attend-
ed the f-uneral of the late Mr.
Ezra Haist, at Crediton, on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Erwin 14Iclsaac and
family of Windsor, spent a few days.
with the former's parents.
Mr. Lorne Tiernan left on Tues-
day for London, where he will at-
tend Western University.
Mrs. Wm. Snell had the misfor-
tune to fall and fracture her arm on
Tuesday.
Rev. Sauer of Sebringville will con
duct Rally Day services in the Evan-
gelical church on Sunday evening
next.
Dashwood Band attended Ilderton
Fair on Wednesday.
COUNTY NEWS.
T. C. Delgaty, his two sons and
daughter motored from Treherne,
Man, and are visiting, Mr. and Mrs.
R. W. Delgaty, Bayfield, Mr. T. O.
Delgaty formerly conducted a mer-
chant tailoring business in Bruce
field but for the past 26 years has
been in the west. He sees vast
changes everywhere • he goes but still
has a warm spot in his heart for old
Huron. His niece, Miss Agnes Del-
gaty, accompanied them from Tor-
onto and is also a guest of Mr. and
Mrs. R. W. Delgaty. They report
o most 'enjoyable motor trip from
the west.
Auto stealing oround Goderich,
is 'becoming. serious. Severad weeks
ago a Ford coupe belonging to Har-
old Newcombe was stolen and recov-
ered, and lately a new Durant, the
Property of E. D. Brown, was also
taken from his garage and to date
'las not been found. Last Saturday
evening thieves entered the garages

A number of tools were found lying
on the floor with which they had tri-
ed to start the cars.
There passed away at her home,
Kippen on Saturday last, Mrs. R. B.
McLean, she has been in declining
health for some time, and a very pat -
lent sufferer, but becoming bedfast
about a month ago. Death was in-
deed, to her, a relief from long suff=
ering. She lived with her daughter
Mrs. J. Henderson, and her daugh-
ter Mrs. Fowlier has also been pres-
ent in care. The deceased's hus-
band died some years ago, and she
leaves to mourn her loss two sons
and three daughters; one son James
McLean being on the old homestead.
Dr. W. J. Tillman, well-known
London physician had a narrow es-
cape from drowning while in bath-
ing at Grand Bend on Sunday
afternoon, according to eyewittness-
es on the beach at the time, who
were not aware of his plight for
some few minutes. Stumbling over
a stone when about 100 feet out
from the shore, the physician fell
heavily, inhaling a large quantity of
water as he went under. The depth,
of the lake at this point is nearly
six feet, it is stated, and, due to the
sudden fall, Dr. Tillman had swal-
lowed more than enough water. Cal-
ling for help, the doctor is reported
to have crawled on his hands and
knees a short distance on the bed of
the lake. Shouting the second time.'
for assistance, a Mr. Aust went to
his aid, succeeding in getting the•
physician out of trouble. For a time
the majority of those on the beach;
and in full view of Dr. Tillman's,
plight had little thaught that he was
in trouble.
Selright Stores,operating about.
30 chain stores in Ontario, have; ren-
ted the Pickard block and are open-
ing up a branch store in Exeter. The
store is under the management of
E. F. Reid, of St. Marys. The Sel-
rite stores handle a line of goods
selling from five cents to a dollar
and carry the usual variety of go-
ods found in a store of that kind.
J. Mossop of London, has taken
over Beatty Bros. general store bus-
iness, Varna, which he recently pur-
chased. Mr. Mossop getting posses-
sion on August 15th and in the
meantime Beattie Bros. are continu-
ing their stock reduction sale. Mr:
George Beattie has been in business
for over forty years.

last of one of the oldest residents of
Exeter in the person of Mrs. Thos.,
Martyn, aged 02 years and 7 months
Several weeks ago the deceased had'
the misfortune to fall and fracture.
