few weeks holidays with friends hi
the village and at Bayfield: °
Sorry to report that Mr. Theo,
Steinbach of the village is nursing a
sore arm from blood, poisoning, but
it is improving nicely.
Miss Gertrude Weber, who is em-
ployed as a clerk in a• large depart-
ment store at Harrietsville, was a
Sunday visitor under the "parental
roof in town.
Mrs: (Rev.) Whitesides, accom-
panied by her son and daughter,, vis-
ited during the past week at the
homes of her brothers and sisters in
town, namely the Williams family.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Koehler, of
Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Koeh-
ler and family of Baden, were rec-
ent visitors with relatives here.
Mr. F. C. Kalbfleisch is having
large gangs at work pulling the 1928
crop of flax, which proves to be a
very favorable one.
Mr. and Mrs. David Studer, of
Detroit, were visitors at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Well. Johnston, and
other relatives the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Smith, and da-
ughter Mae, accompanied by Mr.
and Mrs. I. D. Smith and family of
Bayfield were Friday visitors with
their father, Mr. D. Smith, at Shakes
peare.
In our last week's Herald we
made mention of Mr. McAdam's of
the Bronson Line as having had a
large number of apple trees blown
over by the recent wind storm, and
this should have read Mr. Gabel's or-
chard in stead Mr. McAdams'.
Mr. and Mrs. Irvin D. Smith and
three daughters, Cathern, Marjorie,
and Meriarn, of Hamiltod, and who
have spent a pleasant two week's
camping at Bayfield, were Sunday
visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
C. L. Smith.
Te exceptionally fine harvest wea-
ther the past week has been a great
boon to the farmers and they sure
are busy with the splendid harvest
that is awaiting their attention. A
few more weeks of this nice weather
and the large crop will be, safely gar
nered into the barns.
Dr. and Mrs. A. J._ MacKinnon,
and two sons, Hugh and Archie, re-
turned on Monday evening from a
few day's pleasant outing that they
enjoyed on the Doctor's former home
at Caladon East, north of Toronto.
They left on Thursday morning and
had a most enjoyable time, at this
very dear old place to the Doctor.

of Detroit spent Sunday with their
parents here.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Wesley, of De-
troit, were guests with Mr. Mous-
seau, Mrs. Wesley's brother.
Mrs. Rachel Denomme, of Detroit,
is spending a couple of weeks with
her brother, Mr. Er Mousseau. •
Miss Bernette Mousseau is spend-
ing two weeks' vacation with her
sister, Mrs. Smith at Detroit.
Mrs. Louis Beck and Mrs. Edward
Mero and family, of St. Claire, Mich.,
are spending their vacation with
their brother Mr. Philip E. Denomme,
The 'Catholic church was the scene
of a beautiful ceremony last Sunday
at eight o'clock Mass, when 15 little
boys and girls aged seven received
for the first time Holy Communion.
The little ones were very beautifullly
attised; the girls in the ordinary
first Communion costume of white,
and the little boys wearing the white
ribbon on the left arm. The little
ones having been trained and edu-
cated by Rev. Father Gerard, Parish
Priest; though very small, they
showed great Love and devotion to
Little Jesus in the sacrement of the
Altar they were receiving for the
first time.

Mr. Czar Steinhagen returned to
Woodstock on Tuesday after spend-
ing his vacation with his parents.
Mr. Archie Bender is on the sick
list.
A large crowd gathered on Main
St. on Sunday evening to listen to
the special music given by the band.
Rev. and Mrs. Jacob H. Ehlers,
of Indianopolis, are visiting the for-
mer's father, Mr. Henry Ehlers.
Miss Kathleen Merrier, is spend-
ing her vacation in Detroit.
The death took ,place at her home
on the 14th Con., Stephen, on Fri-
day, August 10th of Mrs. Cyrus Vin-
cent, who. passed away at the age of
72 years following an illness of a
few weeks from heart trouble. Be-
sides her husband she leaves a
grown up family. The funeral was
held on Sunday afternoon to Grand
Bend cemetery.
