ITEMS OF LOCAL INTEREST
Mr. F. J. Wickwire of Exeter, cal-
led in the village on Tuesday.
Mr. Walter Schnurr was a week-
end visitor at his home at Mildmay.
Mr. John Fritz and daughter Miss
Olive of Guelph, were week -end vis-
itors at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. Fritz: i
Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Paulin, and
daughter, of Regina, Sask., who have
been visiting at the home of Mrs.
Paulin's mother, Mrs. S. 'Rennie, left
for their home in regina.
Mr. Ward . Fritz was to Windsor
the past week and returned home
with two new Ford cars,. which he
found ready sae for:
Monday of this week was obser-
ved as civic holiday, and as a con
sequence there was little business
activities in the village. Yet we are
informed that quite a few farmers of
the district seemingly forgot all a-
bout this being a holiday and came
to town with the intentions of doing
business, and were greatly dissapoin-
ted in finding all places closed, and
only through the courtesy of the
merchants, were they able to get
their badly needed supplies. A go-
odly number of our citizens enjoyed
the big races meet at Goderich, while
others spent the day basking at the
lakeside.
The exceptionally low prices our
local merchants are quoting on their
merchandise at present, is attracting
large crowds, and the public arestak-
ing good advantage of the same..
The buying public can do nothing to
help their community any better
than to patronize the home merch-
ant. It keeps the money in circul-
ation, right at home, helps to build
up your town, where you depend on
to sell your produce, and with a good
live business town in the community
is a big factor to greatly increase the
value or farm lands, as well as the
products. We feel safe in saying
that the prices at which our local
merchents are offering their -goods
at, compare very favorably with the
big mail house order catalogues,
with the quality of pods 9.9110 4.91.9.4
and besides you iirsi see what yoil
are buying, and have no trouble in
sending back if goods are not setts-
factors. Be loyal to your commun-
ity and patronize the home merch-
ant!
One of the worst storms that has
been experienced in this section in
a goodly number of years, was ex-
perienced on Saturday -afternoon -last
at about four o'clock, when the sky
became quite darkened and it looked
as if something unusual migut hap-
pen along, when the wind blew atter'
the rain fell in torrents. Aloiig the
14th concession and the Bronson
Line however, the storm was at its
worst, and whole fences, which were
constructed of loose material, were
scattered all over the fields, and it
was a common thing on Sunday
morning to see the farmers out build
ing fences to keep their stock from
further destroying their grain. As..'
usual some real freak incidents oc-.
curred, one farmer had his hay load-
er, which wasout in thew lild trans-
ported from one field to another, ac-
soss the fence with practically r..o.
odamage, while the manure sere ler
of another farmer's was taken out of
the implement shed ,and vaned acr-
oss a field, and also suffered no darn-
ages, !Quite a number of lmplcrn-
ent ,sheds were wrecked, as well as.
other outbuildings. Probably the
Heaviest losses sustained were Py Mn.
Elmer Willert of the 14th coh. who
had his . barn badly damaged, and the
new barn that is being erected by
Mr. Walter. _tiller of the 14th. cors.,
which was destroyed by tire setite
time ago, the main frame structure
