Judge Lewis was in town the oth-

th-er morning holding court on the ap-
peal of Alex, Smith, against the as-
sessment of thel property of Owen
Geiger. Mr. Smith appealed to the
Judge that the assment of $1200
was far too low, that the 'assessment
on his dwelling of $3,000 was far too
low on a building that cost $10,000
or over. Mr. 'Smith also appealed
for an $800.00 business assessment
to be placed on Mr, Gaiger, Mr. Gei-
ger at certain times of the year ad-

jury, J. L. Malone, plaintiff 'v`.s. L.
Wilson defendant. The defendant
sold a horse to the plaintiffe on the
understanding that 'the horse's age
was six, coming seven years. The
plaintiffe Iater was informed that the
horse's age at the time of the deal
would be ten or eleven. The plain-
tiffe took action to recover $65 dam-
ages from the defendant. The jury
on the evidence heard allowed the
plaintiffthe sum of $50.00.
The Canning factory, Exeter, is a
busy place— at present, having start
ed on their annual pea pack. The
prospects are for a fair crop. The
heavy rains were detrimental, to the
crop and the yield will not be as
heavy as it otherwise would have be-
en. The acreage is about 400.
The Huron County W.C.T.U. held
its 31 annual convention m Ontario
at; church, Clinton on July 10th, an
encouraging number being present
