Expositor:
The month of May is rapidly pas-
sing on and soon will conic the fine
month of June, when nature is so
enticing, and we also note that. the
Huron County Council will have Its
mid -year session in this month. We
have just been in conversation •with
an enterprising citizen the other day
who suggested that at this time. right
now would be a very appropriate op-
portunity to float a petition in Zur-
ich and community and present this
petition to the County Council, nam-
ely a petition for a better class of
road from Zurich to Hensel'. We
are sure that such a movement
would go over big in public opinion,
and would lave a tremendious in-
fluence in putting this proposition a-
cross before long.
Agricultural Men Meet
Must. Cut Weeds
Townships which do not keep their
municipal roads propel:1y cleared of
'seeds fe.ce a likelihood of having
their Provincial grants for read
: sintcnanee -withheld by the de-
partment of highways, according to
the terms of the revised Noxious
`Veecls Act, which has now gone into
effect. Under the terms of the re-
vised Act the appointment of weed
inspectors is compulsory in every
township, The Noxious Weed Act
was first introduced as provincial leg
islature last year and in 1928 has
has been revised in several respects.
This year it is necessary for all
townships to keep -the weeds down
on their roads. Road commission-
ers are held responsible under the
act for the cutting of weeds and the
cost is to be included in the cost of
road upkeep. If the work is not at-
tended to, the province will withhold
its grant towards maintenance ot
county roads in that township until
the weeds are satisfactorily cut, the
Act specifies.

Operations have commenced itt
the construction of the large under
drain commencing at the Hess' wag-
gon shop and extending westward to
the edge os the village, and known
as' the Talbot Drain. Mr. Henry
:!!laxl:ard has been appointed by the
Council as foreman, and he has e
gang of men working every day on
the job. The tile are quite large
and are of the sewer type, and will
serve their purpose well. At a few
places the excavation extends to a
depth of six feet. Whcnthis drain
completed, a large area of the west
end of the village will have excellent
drainage.
Half Holiday
The time for getting ready to
observe the weekly half holiday is
again at hand, and we are advised
that the merchants of Zurich have
mutually agreed to again observe
this restful afternoon, every Wed-
nesday, beginning on June 6th, and
ending the last Wednesday in Aug-
ust, with the option to extend it a
few weeks further if desired. This
measure has the past two years be-
come very unpopular in the larger
places, and in some at present is not
being observed at all, as owing to
the large amount of tourist traffic
that has developed, the merchants
find it very poor business to close up
their stores, and so have arranged
the halfhollday by giving different of
their' employes, a half day off during
the week, and this is also being advo-
cated as a good method for the smal-
3er towns and villages also,
