Jew Star Car driven 158 miles in low gear takes only pint of
water at end of trip
mother gruelling low gear test to which a New Star Car was submitted
as again proven the stamina of "the aristocratof the low -price field".
:A few months ago_ a New Star Coupe was driven for 140 miles in low
car -with excellent results and now a New Star Coach has gone one better,
rora Parkhill, Ont., to Stratford—a distance of 158 miles—this ' coach
as •driven while locked in low gear, with the gear shift lever removed.'
t was a non-stop trip in so ,far as the engine was concerned although
I be automobile was stopped In Ailsa Craig, Lucas, Exeter, Dashwood,
osier., Mensal, Brucefield, Bayfield, Goderich,Clinton, Seaforth, Mitchell
(land then Stratford..
In each of these centres the car was welcomed by crowds of curious
o'lk who were quite surprised that such a feat could be accomplished
I'svit'hout'heating the, engine,
On arrival in Stratford` C. J. Hatton of the engineering staff of Durant
Motors of Canada, Limited, gave an instructive address an the mechanism
f the New Star Cars particularly pointing out the superior design and
ea1ity construction which mark the New Star Car as a "Quality"
roduct.
During the entire trip the test car ran freely and iyithou't the Least
lgn of distress. The average speed for the 158 miles was 18 miles per
.our, the highest speed being 22 miles per hour. It used one pint of
water, one and a half pints of oil and 13/ gallons of gasoline.
After the low gear run, this New Star Coach was driven back over the
sanne route, in high gear, to show that it was in as good condition as•
1t ryas when the test trip was started.
