KILLED PRISONERS OF WAR.
The Charge Upon Which a United
States Army Officer is to be
Tried.
Manila, Dec. 15.—The court mar-
tial which is to try Major Edwin F.
Glenn, of the Fifth Infantry, has
decided to summon Generals Chaf-
fee and Smith from the United
States to testify. Th.e court mar-
tial tans organised to -day and
Major Glenn was arraigned. The
formal charge against the major is
that he unlawfully and wilfully
killed seven prisoners of war.
1Vlajor Glenn first entered a special
plea denying the jurisdiction on
the ground that it lacked power to
try 0 prisoner charged with murder
in times of peace. Judge Advocate
Godier denied that Major Glenn.
was charged with mnrdor and the
court over -runlet. the objection.
Major Glenn then pleaded not
guilty. The defense submitted a
request asking the court to summon
four witnesses, including Generals
Chaffee and Smith from the United
States. This request was grainted.
The prosecution then asked for an
adjournment, owing to the non-
arrival of certain witnesses from
Samar; The court Will decide to-
m0)1'OSv 'whether to send a steamer
to Samar to bring the witnesses to
Manila or to adjourn until January.
