Manila, Dec. 15.—The court mar- tial which is to try Major Edwin F. Glenn, of the Fifth Infantry, has decided to summon Generals Chaf- fee and Smith from the United States to testify. Th.e court mar- tial tans organised to -day and Major Glenn was arraigned. The formal charge against the major is that he unlawfully and wilfully killed seven prisoners of war. 1Vlajor Glenn first entered a special plea denying the jurisdiction on the ground that it lacked power to try 0 prisoner charged with murder in times of peace. Judge Advocate Godier denied that Major Glenn. was charged with mnrdor and the court over -runlet. the objection. Major Glenn then pleaded not guilty. The defense submitted a request asking the court to summon four witnesses, including Generals Chaffee and Smith from the United States. This request was grainted. The prosecution then asked for an adjournment, owing to the non- arrival of certain witnesses from Samar; The court Will decide to- m0)1'OSv 'whether to send a steamer to Samar to bring the witnesses to Manila or to adjourn until January.
