A STOCK EXCHANGE INCIDENT.
London, Nov. 20. -Sir Patteeon
Nickell% T. P., a prominent member
of the Stock Exchange, preshied Tues-
day night at a pro -Boer. meeting
head at Maidetone, Kent. Several
hundred Tories occupied the gallery
for the exp•rese purpose of creating
a distueameee.
Immediately after Sir Patteson
Nielialle, who is a Liberal, had cora-
menced to sneak he was interrupted
by groans wed Kings. In the few in-
tervals of silence Sir Patteson man-
aged to say that great numbers of
thoughtful En.glishmen were seek-
ing for means to stay the terrible
waste of life in South Africa and the
great peril now threatening the na,-
tion. La hie opinion it was an une
neeeseary and au unjust war. It
was a war of false pretence and a,
war against civilization. He favored
offering the Boers definite terms as
an alternative for tee subjugation
and extermination poiicy of the Tory
Government.
At tide point the interruptions re-
doubled, and finally a lot of rowdies
stormed the platform and the meet-
ing broke up in. great disorder -
Os the Sayele Exeluenge on Wednes-

up by the utterances. of Sir Pattesen
Nickalls, and, in the absence of busi-
ness, they passed the time in, singing
"God Save the King" and in making
various other demonatrations against
the unpopular member.
Sir Patteson Nickalls is an uncle of
Guy Nit-kali% thee mast successful
amateur erareman known in England
for many year. He was knighted by
the last Liberal Administration in
