For the benefit of some of our
neighboring farmers who have giv-
en their farms to certain parties to
sell on commission we copy the
following, which was handed to us
last week by one of our friends :—
,4I have noticed in your paper on
several occasions articles about a
land. transaction between one Daly
of Guelph and farmers around the
country, and my name has been
published as the party who did the
dirty work. Now, Mr. Editor. 1
think it no more than fair I should
have a chance to defend myself. I
admit being the man that went
around and took the ads. for the
farms, but I did it in good faith
that it was all right, and a straight
business, as I had been trained in
their office to understand certain
clauses to mean different from
what they did mean, and when I
explained them to the farmers as
it had been explained to me they
were perfectly willing to sign, and
I do not claim to be any wiser than
some farmers, so why should I not
be misled as well as they should be?
But just as soon as I found out, I
dropped the matter and refused to
accept any of the commissions due
nue, but said I Would stand between
them and my man I had been the
means of misleading, and as you
know, I came to Stratford. on Dec.
12. 1899, as a witness in the case of
Daly v. Douglas, and I went into
the stand although I had been ap-
proached by Daly's side with them,
and several hundred dollars com-
mission due me, but no, I exposed
the character of the business, and
am ready to do so again whenever
I sin called to do so. They cannot
collect from any farmer, but are
only trying to scare thein into some
settlement. Hoping this will ex-
plain my position in the matter,
and by publishing the same you
will oblige me very much, and I
hope it will be copied by the Wood. -
stock papers, as they seem to be
causing some trouble around. there.
The case of Daly v. Douglas was
decided in favor of Mr. DougIas."
THE MONTH OF HAY
and Grand Reception of the Daught-
ers of the Immaculate Conception,
Drysdale, Ont., May 31, 1001.
It is with eagerness that the
parishioners of Drysuale announce
to -day, the pions recollection, in
which they have spent the month
of May. It is the first time, since,
the foundation of our parish, and
at the arrival of our new and
worthy pastor, the Rev. R. Prud'-
honune, that we have had the
happiness to pray and to show
our love for our Blessed Mother, in
so solemn a wanner.
Every evening, at the desire of
our holy and most devoted pastor,
we have come always with a great -
r Iove, to prostrate ourselves at
the foot of Mary's altar, there, to
offer to our Immaculate Mother
our hearts and our souls, to snake
known our wants, and to receive
n return, her blessing and con-
solation.
Forever in our hearts shall live
the souvenir of this blessed month,;
during which +bur beloved pastor,
has not ceased to preach eloquent-
+, and with alt the ardour of his
soul, the glories of Mary, and the
assured salvation of those who
ray and honor the Blessed Virgin
raring their lifetime.
0! many tinges already, we have
turned thanks to God and His
sV Mother. for having given Us
pastor so filled with a burning
love for God and His Blessed
Mother, a pastor who has shown
us so worthily, the only true hap-
piness acquired in loving and
praying Mary. so too, as an offering
of gratitude and thanksgiving to 0
the Sauced Heart of Mary, for the
graces received, and to prove her
Kew loyalty and love, there took I]
place on May 24. the foundation of
the Sodality of tete Daughters of
the Ita]rnacrilate Conception. and on
the last day, in the evening. took
place its the. presence of all the
members of the congregation, the;
eonseeration and grated reception
of thirty-nine other young ladies, i
in this beautiful Sodality.
The defile of the Soxlalists and'
the ceremony of the reception,'
were the eause of many a tear
from the spectators. It seemed
as though we were present at a'
solemn religions profession in a a.
monastery. Our venerable pastor
bad well prepared: the seals of the
young ladies, with appropriate and
edifying words.
The Church, and especially the
Blessed. Virgin's altar, was richly
and artistically decorated. The
music and singing for the occasion
was all that could be desired. Our,
beloved pastor gave the sermon for'
the occasion in French and in, Eng-
lish. He showed with eloquence
the grandeurs of this most impos- 1
ing ceremony, and the incompar-
able advantages of this Sodality,
for the sanctification and salvation
of Ththose who belong t.
ey tor
ceremon was theenn termin-
ated

May the honor, glory and love
due to the Mother of God, always
increase in the Parish at Drysdale.
