McEwan will oppose lir. McMillan. HURON COUNTY NOTES The sad news reached her:lion- i' SLABTOWPi day, from :Felson, B. t'„ that Jas. Campbell, youngest sun of Wm. ! This town has never been so quiet politically as at present, not- withstanding the fact that the Dominion elections are at hand and before another issue of THE HERALD will be past history, South Huron is classified as a "grit hive" and our conservative friends are evi- dently "laying low" for some future time, The contest for parliamentary honors will be be- tween John McMillan who has held the seat for some 15 or 16 years, and George McEwen a wellknown man- ufacturer and business man of Hensall, who has occupied the position of reeve of Hay and also has been a representative of this section in the County council. He is a man of practical business ability, honest and straightforward in his dealings, a good canvasser and an all around fit and able man in any position, and if the electors of South Huron send Mr. McEwen to parliament (which no doubt they will) they will be assured that their interests at Ottawa will be care- fully looked after. Mr. McMillan has several times intimated that he would resign if given another term, but it appears he wants to hang on to the end. The electors of this riding are not in a humor to have South Huron held by Mr. Mo Millan any longer, and they are ready and anxious, on the 7th. to poll their votes for George McEwen the People's candidate. If Mac. gets 200 majority, THE HERALD will not be very much surprised. D. S. Faust's old driver "Jim" after reaching the age of 29 years met his death at the hands of F. W. Hess assisted by Sam, and a few other boys, last week. "Jim" was a faithful old horse and Mr. Faust was loath to part with him. Most horses of the present day are brok- en down before reaching half this age. Some of our prominent citizens have taken up the library and read- ing room question and before long we may look for some definite an- nouncement on this important sub- ject. The HERALD has several times mentioned the need of such an institution for this growing town and is ready and willing to give all possible aid. In addition to the above, evening classes may also be established, and no doubt our school teachers would willing- ly lend their assistance for a few hours every week.
