An act to uniond the act` respect-
ing interest, passed at the last
session of the Dominion Parliament,
marks all epoch in the financial
world, in that it makes :) per vent,
per ttnluun the legal rate of interest
(as it is popularly called), instead
of six per rent. If the accumula-
tion of capital increases as it has
done during the last quarter of a
century, the rate will soon be down
to 4 per cent,—Canada Law Journal.
The latest to snake its appearance
on the journalistic horizon, is the •
Herald, of Zurich, under the editor-
ship of Mr. Dan Dyer, formerly of
Exeter. The Herald is quite a
newsy little sheet, but we are afraid
the field is too limited, and that it..
will find some difficulty in weath-
ering the stormy journalistic sea.
We trust, however, that frier..(.
Dyer will have that success which
his pluck and energy deserve.—Hur-

AnEngliail schoolmaster recently
gave his pupils a talk on patriotism,
says The Scottish American. He
pointed out the high motives which
moved the volunteers to leave their
homes and fight for their. country.
The school -master noticed that one
bot (lid not pay attention to the
instruction and as a test question
he to sked grim : "What Motives took
the volunteers to the war?" The
boat was puzzled for a moment,
then, remembering the public
"aced -oft" to the local reserves and
•ohniteers at the railway station
e replied : "Locomotives, sir."
