The .December sitting of the County Court was held in Goderieh last week. A. number of eases of local interest were decided. In the case, Ran- dall vs. Zettel, the plaintiff's claim was disallowed, In this case the plaintiff claimed to rank as a credi- tor in the Albert Zettel estate, who recently became insolvent. His claim was disputed and the matter was taken to the County Court with the above result. In the case, Cole- man vs. Cochrane, Iii which plain- tiff claimed damages from defend- ant in that the latter was the cause of the former's rig 'being upset in- to the Glitch and injuring Mr. Cole - mat and wife. The plaintiff got judgment for $50 and costs. In the Case, Copeland vs. Beverly, plain- tiff got judgment for 00 and costs, for damages done to the plaintiff's stock of pianos in his store in Hon- saall, while the defendant was mak- ing some alterations in the build- ing, occupied by plaintiff as Music store, and owned by defendant. The auction sale held last Satur- day in the village was in every way ie success. A good sized crowd was present and fair prices were ob- tained for the numercus and varied articles offered for sale. A pleasant .dancing party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Wainer, east of the village, last Thursday evening. A large number were present and all en- joyed themselves immensely. On Wednesday,- Dec. 21st, the winter season set, in. It has cer- tainly made a good beginning thus far ; snow neatly two feet sleep ; high drifts on the country roads; and the trains have been delayed for hours on account. of the snow. A Christmas Entertainment will be held in the Evangelical Church on Tuesday evening, Dee. 27th. The programme consists, of dialogues, recitations, together with a, beauti- ful cantata, entitled "The Story of the Star." Admission for adults, 15 cents, Children, 10 runte. SAD AOCIDNIST. Another unfort- unate accident happened last Sat- urday on the farm of Mr. Ross Johnston, near Blake. Mr. John Thirsk had his outfit there cutting; straw, and Mr. Thirsk, in picking tip sonic loose straw, in some way had his hand caught in the' ma- chine, with the result that three fingers and part of the thumb were so badly crushed that amputation was necessary. Much sympathy is felt for Mr. Thirsk as the accident will result in the partial loss of the use of his hand. A nu)nber of these unfortunate accidents have happen- ed in this viciat1ty of late, and some precaution can surely bo taken so as to make it an impossibility for thein to happen.
