Charles- worth & Son. Mr. Jas. Hagan, Sr.. of near Hillsgreen, has been seriously ill the past few weeks. He is some- what better at present. The Ontario Legislature has been dissolved. Elections will be held on Wednesday, January 25th, nom- inations one week earlier. Messrs. Hy. Randall and Albert Zettle are in Goderich. this week in connection with the Randall vs. Zettle case, which is being tried there. On account of Christmas and New Year's falling on a Sunday, this year, December 26th and Jan- uary 2nd have been declared public holidays, A very enjoyable party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Campbell, St. Joseph, last Friday evening. A number from this village attended. Mr. Menno Otterbein, of Calgary, Alberta, arrived .home a few days ago. Mr. Otterbein left for the West a number of years ago and has done well out there. A convention of South Huron Conservatives will be held in Mil- ler's Hall, Hensall, ,on Tuesday, Dec,•em ber 20th, commencing at 2 o'clock, p. m., for the purpose of selecting a candidate for the Legis- lative Assembly. Mr. E. J. Christie, who for two or three years has been connected with the Sovereign Bank at Exeter, and later at Wyoming, has severed the connection and is assisting his father at the Exeter Post Office again.—Advocate. The children of the Sunday school of the Lutheran church are busily engaged in preparing a pro- gram, consisting of reeitations,etc., for their annual Christmas Tree, which will be held on Saturday evening, Christmas Eve. Mr. Chris. Either has been under the doctor's care for a few clays this week. He was overcome by the heat in the bake shop and on regaining consciousness was left in a very weak condition. We are glad to state that he is recovering and will be around as usual soon. Mrs. J. H. Roedding, of Tilson- burg, is here this week attending the funeral of her mother, the late Mrs. Zeller. She is accompanied. by her two daughters, Clara and Leone. Misses Gladys and Rose McNevin, of Goderinh, grand- children of the deceased, are also here and will remain for a few weeks. The lectures held under the aus- pices of the Zurich W. 0, T. U. on Thursday and Friday evenings last were a success as far as the enter- tainment,went, but the attendance was not large. Mr. Clarke, "The Boot -black Orator" was at his best a.nd gave two hours entertainment each evening, which greatly de- lighted those present. On Thurs- day evening his subject was "To and Fro in London" and only those who have heard him speak on this subject can feel the force and vividness of his delivery. On Fri- day evening his subject was a por- trayed of incidents in the life of John B. Gough, the groat actor, and Mr. Clarke's selections were ndeed admirable. New ads.—D. Steinbach, Chas. The nomination for County Coun- cil candidates will be held in the Town Hall here on Monday next, at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Sehwartzentruber and Chris. Erb, of the Bronson line, left on Wednesday for Hamburg and Baden, where they will spend Christmas with friends. The regular meeting of the W. C. T. U. will be held at the home of Mrs. P. Bender, on Monday after- noon. Dec. 19th. All members try and be present, as these meetings always prove interesting. Mrs. H. Brennerinan, of East Zorra, and Mr. Rudy Oesch, of Huron Co., Michigali, are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Menno Oesch, Bronson Line. Mrs. Oesch has been quite ill for weeks, but is slowly recovering. FATAL ACCIDENT. A fatal acci- dent happened in a bush near Grand Bend on Wednesday, when Albert Sparrow, postmaster at Brewster, was struck by a falling tree, and was so injured thtt.t he died soon after. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved faui.ii;,: Ontario generally is suffering from a water famine. In many places the wells and creeks are dry, and so short is the supply of drink- ing water for cattle that the farm- ers are talking of selling off their ahimals. The country is on the verge of winter, and should the ground freeze before the rain conies the water will run off the surface drainage and the wells will remain useless until spring. Re- ports from various parts of the Province state that there has been very little rainfall during the month of November. The directors of the Farmer's In- stitute of South Huron .net in Hensall on Monday of last week for the purpose of selecting sub- jects for the winter meetings. A gond list of subjects were chosen and some interesting discussions may be expected. The following supplementary meetings, six 111 number, have been arranged for. Elimville, February 7th ; Crediton, February ° 8th ; (.rand Bend, Feb- ruary 9th ; Zurich, February 10th ; Hensall, February 11th ; Bayfield, February 13th, The delegates for the supplementary meetings are Henry Glendenning, of Manila, and D. James, of Langstaff. DEATl3 014' MRS. M. ZELLER. On Monday morning the citizens of Zurich were surprised and grieved. to learn that the angel of death had visited us and taken away the soul of ODD of Our earliest settlers, in the person of Clarissa Liebler, widow of the late Michael Zeller. Her end cause peacefully and pain- lessly just after midnight. Tho late Mrs. Zeller was born in the city of • Hamilton on March 22nd, 1835, and was married on July 8th, 1854, in the County of Waterloo. Over forty years ago, she moved to this Township, where she has since resided, and since the death of her life partner over a year ago .wade her home with her daughtor, Mrs. Ed. Appel. She leaves five daugh- ters, two sons, thirty-two grand- children, and four great -grand children, also a ntunber of brothors and sisters. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, the re- mains being interred in the Luth- eran cemetery. The funeral ser- vices were conducted by the Rev. W. J. Yager, of the Evangelical church. The old friends who acted as pall -bearers were : F. Hess, Sr., John Deichert, Sr,, 17. F.
