A meeting of the Directors of the

Mr. Wm. Greb, of near Stratford,
is spending a few weeks with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hy Greb, at
present.
On Monday last, Mr. Geo. Trott,
the photographer, took a group
photograph of the officials of the
Township of Hay who held office
during the past year.
We are pleased to state that Mrs.
H. Well returned to her hone last
week from the !Private hospital,
Guelph, after twenty-three weeks
treatment, with good results.

• Miss C. Walper, who has so ably
attended to the wants of Mr. J.
Preeter's customers in tb'e milli-
nery department during the past
season, returned to her home near
Dashwood on Monday.
The new Municipal Act comes in-
to force at the approaching muni-
cipal elections and all intending
candidates must register their
qualifications before the hour of
nomination commences.
The continued cold weather is
making many a man who looks
after the sapply of fuel fur keeping
the house warue look suspiciously
at the coal bin and the wood pile
and wonder if it will last till the
spring.

A pleasant surprise party was
held at the home; of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Witwer on Monday evening,
in honor of Miss Addie, it being her
birthday, The evening was enjoy-
ably spent in playing games and
other amusements, and at a late
hour dainty refreshments were
served.
Word has been received here of
the death of Mrs. Axt, mother of
Mr. Ed. Axt, which sad event took
place in Dakota. The deceased had
lived in Zurich for many years and
was highly thought of. She left
for Dakota nearly two years ago
and lived with her daughter. The
remains were interred in Dakota.
Mr. Frank Coleman, of the Parr
line, Stanley, has entered an action
against Mr.- John Cochrane, of
Hi]lsgreen, claiming $200 damages
for injuries.sustained be being run
into while driving home from Kip -
pen a fov weeks ago. Both Mr.
and Mrs. Coleman were thrown
from their buggy and have not yet
• fully recovered from the effects of
it.

pose holding an auction sale of mis-
cellaneous articles on Saturday,
Dec. 17th at 1 o'clock. See posters

Arrangements have been made
for a grand Bali and Supper to be
held in connection with the Domin-
ion House, Zurich, on Monday,Dee.

Mr. Oscar Koehler has returned
from Dakota,where he helpedto har-
vest the grain this fall. Oscar got
over a good deal of the West and
was most favorably impressed with
the country. '
Hurrah boys, get your rusty old
cow bells and hot guns ready, and
plenty of powder, you don't need

the wedding bells will be ringing
in Slabtown on the twenty-first.
Mr. 3, Preeter was very agree-
ably surprised one evening last
week by having a handsome couch

present from his relatives who live
near Dashwood.

At the regular meeting of the W.
C. T. U., held at the home of Mrs.
Magel on Monday afternoon, Dec.
5th, the President called the meet-
ing to order and led the devotional
part. For the educational half
hour ae programme on the Depart-
ment of Scientific Temperance and
Non -Alcoholic Medication was tak-
en up by Miss Lydia Ronnie. In
the business part definite arrange-
ments were made for J. R. Clark-,
the great entertainer, to be in the
Town Hall, Thursday and Friday,
Dec. 8th and 9th.
Death of Mr. Radley Doan.—One
of the earliest settlers in this part
of this county died at his home in
Roclgerville last Friday in the per-
son of Mr. Hadley Doan at the ripe
old age of 87 years. Mr. Doan had
been in failing health for 4o111e
time, the cause of death beim; old
age and a general weakening of the
system. The deceased carried the
mail from Roderville to Hensall
for many years and continued to
do so until the postofiece at Rodger-'
ville ceased. About sixty -throe
years ago he was mail carrier be-
tween Chicago and Detroit, and he
was often heard to relate how at
that time the e mntry between
those great American cities of rho
present day was nearly all bush,
and that Detroit was then a, pinus
with only a fey: shanties, The de-
ceased was well known in this
vicinity and was highly respected.
Besides Mr. H. C. •Doan, veternary
surgeon, of this village, he leaves
a
number of married sons and
daughters to mourn his loss. The
funeral was held on Monhay and
was largely attended.. •
