two fingers taken off his left hand

Mr. Matthias Warm is confined
to the house as the result of a' ul-
eesated tooth. His condition has
been quite serious, as it was with
the utmost difficulty that he could
take any nourishment.

Mr. Charles Hartleib may aspire to
the office. His name has been fre-
quently mentioned but we have not
heard whether Charlie would con-
sent to run. Mr. Charles Greb's
name has also been mentioned for
the position.

Mr. C. Eilber, our baker, narrow-
ly escaped a severe scalding the
other day. He was in the act of
carrying a boiler fall of hot water
from the house to the bake shop,
and in descending the steps his foot
slipped on the snow. With rare
presence of mind he threw the boil-
er from him and thus saved him-
self from a terrible scalding. As it
was he was slightly burned on the
face and arm.

Mrs. Fulton visited relatives in
London for a few days last week,
Miss Dolly Dixon and Miss Mc-
Dowell, of Exeter, spent a few days
last week, with relatives here.
Mrs. Goo. Murray, of Iowa, is
visiting relatives here, Mr. Murray
is expected shortly.
Robert McAllister and wife will
be married fifty years on Jan. 1st,
1905. They can have a double
celebration.
M. Ellwood has accepted a posi-
tion in a barber shop in Toronto.
The Council met on Thursday
evening and opened the Kelehon
debentures. That of A. Brandt
offering to purchase at par was
accepted.
John McLearen, one of our oldest
citizens, while walking past Oar -
mel church the other day was
seized by a fainting fit and fell to
the sidewalk: He recovered soon
afterwards and is as well as ever. .

We are glad to state that Mrs. E.
P. Paatlin is recovering from her
recent illness.
Mr, E. H. Ehlers has accepted a
position in the store of Mrs. W. D.
Yeo, of Exeter.
Lest Thursday, the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Jacob Webber, near here,
was the scene of a very happy
event, when their second daughter,
Mi:;, Eva, was- united in the holy
bonds of wedlook to Mr. Samuel
Beaver. The Bride was supported
by her sister, Miss Laura, and the
groom, by his brother, Ed. The -
ceremony was performed by Rev.
W. J. Yaeger, lot Zurich. A sump-
tuous wedding feast was partaken
of by the large number of guests
present after the ceremony. The
happy couple loft for Michigan to
spend their honeymoon. We ex-
tend our congratulations to Mr.
and Mrs. Beaver.

second daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jac. Webber, to Mr. Sam Beaver,
of near Dashwood.
The Provincial Electrons.
Toronto, Nov. 28.—The local Lib-
eral Organ says : —It may be stated
authoritavely that there will be no
Provincial elections during the
present year. The interval between
now and Christmas is considered
much too short for the conducting
of a campaign, and it would be a
highly unpopular act to mix up the
animosities of election day with
the amenities of the holiday week.
It is in well-informed Liberal cir-
cles understood that polling day
will be on or about the lith clay of
January.
The New Govenor General.
Ottawa, Nov. 28 —Earl Grey, the
new Governor-General, is expected
in Halifax, Dec. 9th, though still
the date of his sailing is not defi-
nitely fixed, and he may not come
until a week later. He will be
sworn into office in Halifax: in the
Legislative Council Chamber, and
will remain for two clays a guest at
Government House. where a dinner
will be tendered him. He will hold
a public reception at the Provincial
Parliament buildings. The comp-
troller of household and twenty
servants are on board the mail
steamer Bavarian.
