Mr. Edward J. Detiomy, of the
Bauble Gine, returned on Saturday,
after a pleasant visit with friends
at Courtwright, near Sarnia.
Mr. Thos. Shern.i.tt has retnrned,'
and given himself tip to the author-
ities at Goderich. His trial will, it
is said, take place on Tuesday.
A -very successful, as well; as en-
joyable dance party, was held at the
residence of Mr. William Shank, of
the. west end, on Tuesday. night.
Mr. Alex. Thompson, Town line,
near Blake, sold twenty-five acres
of land to his neighbor, Mr. Henry
Holtz. The consideration was
$1100.00`.
Master Freddie .Thiel has been
confined to the house, under the
Doctor's care, for a couple of weeks
with a cute attack of inflamatory
rheumatism.
Clean your walks. Goose paths
are better than no walks at all, but
they are neither comfortable to
walk on, nor pleasing to the eye of
the pedestrian.
Mr. Peter Bender is getting ma-
terial on the ground this winter,
preparatory to starting building
in the spring, on the lot immediate-
ly west of Mr. Philip Sipple's resi-
dence.
Mr. Thos. Warden, who is spend-
ing the winter in Zurich, at the
" Dominion House, was confined to
his room for several days last week
with a cute attaek of La Grip. He
is now, however, sufficiently recov-
ered to be aronnd again.

turned on Friday night from . their

'Mr. Philip ' Hauch is getting
material on the ground with the
expectation. of building a dwelling
in the spring, on that part of the
property reserved near the agricul-
tural ground.
Mrs. Jno. Foster entertained a
numberof juveniles at a party
given in honor of her little 8 year
old daughter's'.. birthday on Friday
evening, when a good time was
spent by those present.
Mr. Willie Johnston, of the °' Do-
minion," is not feeling any too well
these days—nobody does after an
attack, of the grip -but he is, gritty
and only spent one day in his room.
He is gradually shaking off its df.
feats, though by no means out of
its clutches yet.
Mr. Charles Slhoemacher of Wag
ner's Corners, Aturned on Saturday
evening, from a trip to Berlin. We
understand it is Mr. Schoemacher's
intention to work there during the
coming building season, and conse-
quently will not be' in the field, as a
contractor, in thits
vicinity, as
usual.
Miss Hart, one of the assistant
teachers in the Public School, is at
her home in. Brucefield this week,
suffering from. an attack of La Grip
She will likely be sufficiently recov
ered'to.take up her work again on
Monday, meanwhile her classes are
being looked after by some of the
more advanced pupils of the senior
department.
We understand, it is the intention
of the town ailthorities to have the
town bell tang e -Lit times: a day, as
soon as satisfactory arrangements
Call, be made for doing so. This is a
step in the right' direction, for at
present, and for some time past,
there. has been a very noticable dif-
ference in the time, as given by
different parties. The hours will
be 7 a. m, 12 noon, ,aiXcl 1 uw G p. m.
Mr. Dan. Koehler. of the Goshen
Line, is learning the Barber busi-
ness with Mr. Melville Harness, in
town. He commenced work there
the latter part of last week:. He is
said to be " taking hold" like a vet
eran and expects to soon have the
regulation pull.
Six new members were initiated
into the mysteries of the Ancient
Order of United Workmen, at the
meeting of the Lodge, on _Friday
evening last. Mr. Bert Armstrong,
of Hamilton, one of the organizers
of the Society, was present and took
part in the ceremonies.
Twelve degrees below zero, was
recorded at an early hour, on both
Monday and Tuesday mornings.—
It was almost cold enough, we
thought, to accomplish that oft -
repeated phrase of ' ° freezing the
hair of a dog" provided the canine
remained outside long enough to let
Jack Frost fully operate. ,
Mr. Edward Bedour, of the Bau-
ble line, who was on a visit to
Courtwright, returned on Saturday
The night was so cold and the roads
so heavy, that both he and. his com-
panion -in -travel, Mr. Denomy, de-
cided to remain at the " Dominion"
during the night.
Mrs. John Colosky, of Dashwood,
died on Friday afternoon last, at
the age of about 75 years. She re-
sided for many years in this Town-
ship, and removed to Dashwood a
number of years ago, after the de=.
cease of her husband. She leaves a
family of grown up children, to
mourn her loss.

The repast, which was composed of
oysters, etc., was partaken of at the
" Commercial," and was all that
could be desired, mine host Ran

Evangelical Church, Tuesday Jan.

Mr. John Hey Jr., of the Goshen
Line, got badly left on Monday.—
He had tied his rig by the road side
near Mr. Peter Koehler's, at which
place he had sd1110 business, and
was within a few yards of it on his
return, when the animal. which
had in some way freed itself from
the fastening. made a sudden clash
for home, where it arrived in much
shorter time than he did. Little, if
any, dainage was d. -ane, but it was
not a good day for walking and
Johnnie doubtless realized the fact
before he had gone little over half
the distance.
Mr. Henry Weseloh returned last
week from Berlin, where he wont
with a view of louring over the
ground as to prospects, before ar-
riving at any definite decision as to
pulling up stakes and•;making it his
future place of abode. While lik-
ing the place fairly well as .a resi-
dential centre, we believe it is not
his intention to leave Zurich, and it
is altogether likely that he will buy
a. lot and put up a building as soon
as he oan secure an eligible site to
do so. His many friends here will
be pleased to know that he has ar-
rived at this decision.
There aro still some parties in
this locality who 'have not yet
availed themselves of the cheap
prices given in our clubbing rates

short time longer in order that all
who are fond of reading may be
