Miss Annie Johnson, of the'Ur tog Road, and Air. Adair. Douglas of Blake, ,were joined in the holy bonds of wedlock, at the residence of the bride's parents, on Weclnes- day, the 30th. ult., the Rev. Mr, Sawyer, of Br ueefiela, tyilig, the nuptial knot, in the presence of about fifty invited quests. Mr. William. Bender had liis fing- ers badly frost-bitten, while return- ing home from Wiarton, on Satur- day afternoon. He took the regu- lar train, but was told he could not snake connection that way, owing to snow blockades, and in the hurry to get back to the station, forgot to draw on his mittens, and his hands suffered in consequence. The Diptheria eases, mentioned in a former issue, as having broken out near Drysdale, are both conval- escent, and we are pleased to add no further cases are reported. The quarantine, which was established, is now raised, and the members of the afflicted families are, of course, again at liberty to .resume their intercourse with neighbors and the outside world. We regret to learn that Mr. Geo. Merner, of Dashwood, met with a severe accident, on Wednesday, while engaged `in cutting straw, at Mr. Henry Truemner's, on the Gosh en Line. It seems he fell, and not only broken his leg, but split the knee -cap, as well. We did not hear how it occurred, but the fractures will doubtless result in confining him to the house for several weeks, and may leave him with a stiff limb for the balance of his life. Mr. L. Well, of Cavalier, , N. D., arrived in town on Saturday morn- ing, on a visit to friends in and around Zurich. Mr. Well has been in .the west for some 20 years, but paid a visit to friends here about 7 years ago. On Christmas morning, the day before he left, the thermom- eter registered. 40 degrees below zero, and he suffered more from the cold, he informed us, in his ride from Hensall here, on that day, than he ever did there, notwith- standing the great difference in tem perature, We understand that Messrs F. Hess & Son have already disposed of the entire stock of cutters, .got up for the winter's sale. We are pleased to see that this firm are doing such a good business and hope that it will continue equally good, for not only the year 1904, but as long as they continue in bus- iness. Their work needs no praise from THE HERALD ; it has been test- ed and tried well enough to prove its worth, and we only mention the fact as a matter of news, all the more remarkable because the winter is so young. The firms facilities for getting out work, are such, how ever, as to fill orders at remarkably short notice. The following ladies and gentle- men of the town visited Hensall on New Years evening and disported themselves on the ice of the Rink for some hours. They formed a jolly load, and clid not mind such a little thing as an upset on the way home. It was an accident you' know and the roads were anything but good, viz : — Misses Minnie Doan, Ethel Williams, Addie Wit- wer, Tillie Kibler, Dora Eilber, Melvina Koehler, Diana Rickbeil,. Beatrice Steinbach ; Messrs. Dan. Koehler, Sam. Faust, Toni. Kelly, John Deichert, Elton Siegner, Fred Rickbeil, Garnet Magel, Norman Hoitzmann. The self-righteous editor of the Expositor gave TIE HERALD a little advice in newspaper etiquette, in his last issue, regarding a little oversight on our part, in not giving his journal credit for some; articles copied. We plead guilty to the charge, and at the same time will add, that if ours had been a crimin- al offense, the aforesaid editor would be forthwith, indicted, as in the same :paper we, noticed some "news" that had appeared in our columns `the previous week. We might motion other incidents of the same character, one in particular happening some ago, and which no doubt he can recall if he wishes.— People living in glass houses should not begin pelting stones. W.C,T.U. The regular Meeting of the W. C: T. U., which was field at` the home of Mrs. S. Rannte, on IVionday evening, Jan. 4th, was very largely attended. ' Miss Ethel Williams took charge of the Devotional part after which a duet was rendered. • m The educational part was devoted to bible reading on 'Call to Pray- er." The young ladies of the. Union sang a suitable clxorus. Mrs, Williains then took the part on 'Power." An interesting feature of the meeting was the presentation • of a bread and butter plate accom- panied by an atdress to the :Pre i - lent, Mrs. l;Ieyrock, who Was com- pletely taken be surprise.
