Karn, Manager of the Sovereign Bank, at Exeter, was in town, on Wednesday. On Monday, Dec. 7th., the regu- lar meeting of the W. C. T. U, will be held at the home of Mrs. Magcl, et 2.30 p. ut. The scholars of the Evangelical Church Sabbath School are now en- gaged in rehearsing for an entertain • ment, to be given in the Church, on lir about Christmas tinge—date will be announced later. Bossenberry has sold the ouse at the west end (now ocon- ied by Mr. Randall and family) to �1rs. Howald of the village, for the ung of $400. The Evaporator has been closed down for the season, the output be- ing in the neighborhood of three - and -a -half or four carloads, which will likely bo marketed in either Manitoba or the Territories, during the winter. The fruit is said to have been the best ever handled in that institution, and the chances are it will command a ready sale and fairly good prices. Parties who have examined the apple from Mr. Schwalm's orchard (noticed in last issue) say it is not. a Baldwin, but belongs to the Ring family. We have been informed that many much larger than the sample shown can be produced, but the Baldwin being altogether of a smaller variety, is very hard to beat, as regards size, cleanness, color, etc. An accident which might have resulted far more seriously than it did, happened to Mr. Robert Turnor of the Sauble Line, on Monday last, while out fox hunting. By some means the gun went off when 'he was not expecting it and his left hand received the greater part of the charge of shot, lacerating it badly, and probably laying him up for the balance of the winter, DR. ' • Mr. Ballantyne, of Seaforth, License Inspector for the Riding, was in town, on Saturday, in conec- tion with the duties of his office,and so far as 10we can learn, found no cause of complaint, Mr. Daniel Oswald, of the Bron- son Line, cut his foot badly, while in the woods last week, engaged in cutting wood for Mr. 3. 0. Kalb- fieisoh, and is now confined to the house in consequence. Owing to the Council of Hay again meeting on the 15th Inst, Mr. C. Miss Ada Witwer, who has been residing in Detroit, for some time past, arrived home on Thursday evening, when she met with a hear- ty welcome, not alone from parents and relatives, but frdnl friends and acquaintances, as well. Mrs. Weir, of Manitowanning, is in town, and expects to spend most of the winter with her mother, Mrs Henry Ortwein, of the South end. Mrs. Weir has been in that part .of New Ontario for five years, and speaks very highly of the country and its future prospects, The Barber Shop has changed hands, Mr. Harness, Exeter, taking possession on Monday at noon, and Mr. Knorr stepping out and relin- quishing his interest in the busi- ness, in consideration of receiving the price set upon it. Mr. Harness is a practical barber and conducted a. shop at Exeter for some time. Mr Knorr intends following his trade— that of a Mason—in the future. The Special Services in the Evan- gelical Church, is still being contin- ued every evening but Saturday,._ The morning meetings were disoon• tinuod after the first 'week. Last week Rev. Mr. Yager was alone, which must have been a heavy strain on even his fluency of speech and persuasiveness of utterance.— He has, however; • been assisted a few days this week by Rev. Mor - lock, of Dashwood. We are glad to be able to an- nounce that Master Charlie Eilber is so far recovered froni his attack of dropsy, as to be able to resume his studies at the school again, The attack is said to have been brought on by a too copious use of an Anes - Locals continued on page 8.
