wagon With thein. They collided
with a tree in the orchard, break-
ing the tongue teed reach. No oth-

Mr. Decher and son attended the,
broncho sale in Exeter, on Tuesday,
and purchased what they consider
the best of twenty, which were
sold. It is a light bay, not yet two
years' old, and will make a good
driver. Mr. Decher has already
four drivers, but never misses a
chance to purchase a good animal.

Young Nan Be Good.
This is the ultlinatnnl delivered
to some 30,000 young men by their
employers in Chicago. Race track
gambling, excessive indulgence h1
liquor, immoral concinct, late hours
and excessive cigarette smoking,
are the vices charged to the yonng
men. The Western Electric Com-
pany whioh employs about 2,000
risen posted this drastic notice
their shops and general offices ;
"Playing the races anti all other
forms of gambling, immoral con-
duct and excessive use of liquor
and cigarettesi greatly impair one':;
usefulness. Notice is hereby given
that any employee who thus abuses
himself is subject to dismissal."
The wave of reform line spread to
many of the giant business corpor-
ations of Chicago. The big whole-
sale and retail stores of Marshall
Field & Co., have the same laws in
operation which the electric com-
pany is enforcing. Railroads
throughout the country are waging
war against the use of liquors and
tobacco by employees engaged in
operating trains. The revolution
which is being effected in these
respects is shown in the new rule
books which many of the manapsers
of Chicago railroads have just
issued.
Protect the Swallows.
.Amonginsectivorous birds the
swallow is worthy of great encour-
agement. An examination of the
stomachs of eighteen swallows
killed at different seasons of the
year showed that they contained
an average of 400 undigested insects
each, and not a single grain of corn
(of any kind), or the least particle
of fruit or a trace of any vegetable.
Many State and Municipal elec-
tions were held in the United States
on Tuesday, the 3rd inst. The con-
test in which most interest was
taken was that in New York City,
where Mayor Low sought re-elec-
tion at the head of the reform tick-
et. The result was a surprising
turn over front the previous elee-
ion, the Tammany Candidate, Geo.
B. McClelland, (son of the General
of the same name) winning by a
plurality of 70.000. Outside of New
York, there were wery few surpris-
es, and these are of little interest to
Canadian readers.
The body of Mr. Donald McGri-
gor, ex -manager of the Bank of
Commerce at Galt, was found on
the lake shore, near Oakville. His
clothing was found near the same
spot about three weeks ago. Lack
of profitable employment and brood
ing over his i11•fortuue in resigning
his position in the Bank, is thought
to have mentally unballanced him.
Toronto, Nov. 6.—The Dominion
election trials in North Grey and
North Ontario will be held on
