DEAR lana :—As promised to some of the Zurich people, to give them a short sketch of our journey to the west, now proceed to, fulfill it : We left Hensall on the 1.5th of the month, and as this was one of the cheap clays to the Great West- ern Fair, at. London, the train was so crowded that we were forced to take .the platform steps for our seats, but after leaving London for Toronto, the accommodation was better. When we arrived at Toren to, 2.30, we.found a great crowd. at the Union Station, and still more arriving. When the first train was made np for the west, 'thousands of people were ready to board it, and such a jani I never saw. It kept the police busy to keep the crowd back. We were able to board the fourth train, which contained four- teen coaches, and how many follow ed after that I do not know. Toronto is a fine city, and is a credit to Canada. • The population is 201,040—the Capitol of Ontario— and the nest city of importance to Montreal, in the Dominion. It is situated nn.the shore of Lake Onta- rio, and has a most complete Rail- road system, reaching out to every important lilacs and district in the Province. It has imnnense manu- facturing establishments and some of the largest Commercial Houses in the country, and its educational institutions are widely known. From Toronto we went to North Bay -; on the route are seine attrac- tive towns, such as Allendale and Barrie, on the shore of lake Simcoe noted as fine -summer resorts. Next town was Orillia, where one will see some fine structures and partic- filarly its • fine Assylum. After leaving this town, night set in, and the first place we struck in the morning was North Bay, which is 13SI5 miles north of Toronto. North Bay has a population of 2,530, the capital town oaf the Nip-. pissing District. Situated on Lake Nippissing,an extensive and beauti; ful sheet of water, 40 mniles long and fen miles wide, with Islands and calm shores ; small steamers ply on the lake and the district is much frequented by sportsman, North Bay is a Railway Divisional point, with repair shops, and has• very good hotels, Prom Lake Nippissing the scene from the Railway is somewhat wild 'and broken with frequent lakes and rapid streams ; fishing and shooting are excellent, so we are informed. The distance from Morth Bay to Winnipeg is 950 miles. This takes in New Ontario, Algoma District. This stretch is as mass of rocks and Mountains and some scrubs ; some of the Rocky Mountains, we are told, exttnd in height several thousand feet, and it is a miracle to every passenger how the C. P. R. could get through those rocks. It is worth one's while to travel this road to see the sights. It took us two days and two nights to travel! this road. Here and there you will strike a small station, which contains a side track and an operator, to guide the trains and sometimes a saw -mill and asmall store owned by the The " ALMA " SILK GUARD, for Ladies,' ( Complete with Gold Bangle) t and Snap, up.to-date J Price only . - 50 Cents.
