Another Harvest Excursion to
Manitoba on the 15th inst.
Monday is Labor Day, and a stat-
utory holiday throughout Canada.
Messrs. Fred. Hess, jr., and D. S.
Faust, are in Toronto thisweek, on
business.
The School attendance is getting
better, and promises soon to be u17
to the average.
Mr. Beeigueul, a barrister, from
Quebec Province, is visiting Mr.
E. Becigneul, at St. Joseph.
Mr. Peter Lamont shipped three
more carloads of cattle to the mark
et, at Toronto, on Saturday,
Miss Ethel Murdoch, of Hensall,
was in town this week, visiting her
sister, Mrs. (Dr_) Campbell.
Mr. Jacob Merner drove over to
Clinton, on Sunday, and spent some
hours in that hustling town.
Horses are still in fair demand in
this vicinity, and continue to bring
good prices when offered for sale.
Mr. .Jonathan Merner, of Dash-
wood, wife and family. spent Sun-
day in town, visiting the former's
parents.
The regular monthly meeting of
the Hay Township Council takes
place in the Town Hull, here, on
Monday.

on Monday last, for Michigan,
where thf'y intend to reside in the
future, -

ley, on Wednesday, after visiting at
his honor here. for the past four or
five weeks.
Cranberries arc' very plentiful in
the ••big swamp," and piekers may
be seen allnn,t every day' with a
good sized load.
Mrs. C. Sc]irag is now on a fair
way to recovery, being up and
around the house, but still too weak
to help herself much.
The Messrs. Weaver have the
first story of Mr. San Itannie's new
house. up. They are hustling right
along Alis weather.
There were no services in the
Lutheran Church here on Sunday
last, the pastor having to 'officiate
elsewhere on that day,
Miss Petrie, of London, left on
Monday for her home, having been
the guest of Mrs. J. A. Williams,
for the past fear weeks. •
Mr: Jacob Howald is getting the
material on the ground for the
purpose of brick -veneering his
dwelling, east of the town.
Miss aydia Faust has returned
home from Hanover. where she
was in attendance at the meeting of
the Y. P. A.. as a delegate from this
branch.
Mr. Tom. Kelly left yesterday
morning, on a visit to his home, at
Stonffville, and to take in the lin
dustrial, at Toronto, as well as the
London Fair.
Messrs. Wm. Lamont and John
Parke, of Stanley, were in Toron-
to this week and took in the great
Industrial exposition, now being
held there.
The Berber -shop has been remov-
ed to the Merner block, in the shop
formerly- occcupled by Mr. John
Deichert, next door to the Sover-
eign Bank.
Mr. Ed. Bossenberry, Auctioneer,
has no less than four sales booked,
all of which will take place within
the next few days. See sales regis-
ter in this issue.
Another consignment of 47 young
steers, brought west by Mr.Lebeau,
will be sold by auction; at St. Jos-
eph, to -morrow (Saturday.) com-
mencing at one 1i, m.

The annual general nmeet•ines of
the St. Joseph Land improvement
and Manufacturing Company, Lim-
ited, is announced to be held in
that village, on Su,ttxrday, the 12th
instant, at 9 o'clock, p. Inn.
The Comet now visible, will be at
its brightest on or about the 17th.
Star -gazers may then spend an hour
or so longer at the front gate than
usual, without incurring the ire of
the older members of the family,

year on the lith instant and closes
on the 19th. Single rates prevail

Dr. Geo. J. Schoellig, of Detroit

Owing to some derangement of

their coal oil lamps, on Wednesday
night. This is the • first mishap in
the lighting which hes occurred in

The Toronto Industrial. Fair is
now in full swing, being opened by
Lord Strathcona (Sir Donald Smith)

fare from Hensall is now single
for the double jotn•ney. To -mor-
row (the 5th) and anther day next;
week, ;s 3.00 only will be charged.—
All tickets usually good until the
day following the close of the show.
The regular meeting of the W. C.
T. U., which was held at the home
of Mrs, Zeller, on Monday evening,
August 31st., was very interesting.

educational part a very interesting
and encouraging latter was read
from. Miss Louie Andrews, of Win-
nipeg, our former president, after
-which the business part was taken
up.

cent pieces. They are only -worth

only the amount of silver they con-
tain, here, svhieh is said to be less

yet reached this locality they are
