THE NOXON BINDER at Work
Solve of the Excellent Peaturee of
this Popular Machine.
Yesterday afternoon tin exhibi-
tion of the working of a Noxon No.
9 binder was given on the farm of
Mr. W. F. Johnston inside the cor-
lhoration, at which the townspeople
and neighboring farmers were in-
vited- to attend. So nrcich has been
said in favor of this popular lna-
I chine, that it Was not remarkable
that there was a large audience.
Keen interest was manifested by all
especially the farmers, and the ma-
chine, a six-foot one, drawn by two
horses, olid its work faultlessly,—
It was set in motion in a field of
heavy oats, and so simple and eon
venient was it to operate that a cou
pie of ladies residents of the town,
drove it around the field, handling
it with perfect ease. Many others
also rode the machine and were loud
in their praise of the satisfactory
manner in which it performed its
work. Several photographs were
taken while the work ,was in pro-
gress by Mr. F. G. Iiiborn
After every feature of the ma-
chine had been taken into consider-
ation the general opinion was that
a more perfect binder could not be
found.
Truly there is no end tnnaechani-
etal skill and invention. There are
to -day many machines of all and
every kind which al.)pear to be al-
most human. In going through
our factories we see machines for
turning out some of the most deli-
cate workmanship, working away
apparently -without any supervision
beyond that they are kept fed with
the raw materia,], and yet year by
year these same machines which
were at one time considered. perfect
are still perfected, -while it seems
impossible to improve upon them.
One naturally asks the question,
where is all this to end ? Surely
the time will come when there
will be no °erasion for man to per-
form labor but work machinery
will have taken its place.
These inventions are n•,t nonfinod
1 to any'intlustry. The need for them
s applarently inspires mechanical
minds, so that the hatter in a com-
paratively short time are enabled
to i.)roduce that which the needs of
the hour demand. This is 'more
particnlarly noticeable in Iiaaehin-
ery which is dcsiglted to relieve the
farmer of .some of his Ilea vier work.

TRAVELLED FROM WINNIPEG.
Zs. Mother and Two Daughters, in Needy
Circumstances, Abates the Journey
front Winnipeg, to Graven burst to
Seek Admission to the force Hospital
for Consumptives.
An illustration of the many distressing
.eases constantly coming before tlto man-
agement of the Free llospital for Con-
sumptives at CI raven ll urst is in point this
week. A week since, the Secretary, at
the head office in Toronto, through whom
all applications should properly be made,
received a long-distance telephone mes-
sage from the Physician -in -Charge at
Gravenhurst, saying that a mother, with
two daughters, both of whom were af-
flicted with consumption, had presented
themselves at the doors of the Free Hos-
pital, hoping to be at once admitted.
One daughter has the trouble only in a
slight degree, and from a medical point of
view is admissible, as soon as room can
be made, The other has the disease in a
more acute condition, and will need to
take immediate rest until it becomes
somewhat quiescent. The farnily are poor,
their railway fares having been paid by a
friend. The mother has been given em-
ployment on the domestic staff of the
Hospital, and the daughters will board
hi town until *here are vacant beds
in the Hospital to admit them. They
came all this disuse poverty stricken,
but in the belief that somehow the*
would manage to got admission to tat,
institution.
Want of money is the only thing, the
Trustees tell us, that is preventing the
increase of accommodation beyond the
eighty patients already provided for. Up
to the present no one has been refused
admission on account of his or her
poverty, but we are told th'tt the want
of funds is preventing the Trustees from
providing the increased accommodation
needed. Indeed, a heavy burden of debt
is now pressing upon them, and must be
promptly met if this work is to be carried
on.
Contributions may be sent to Sir Wrn.,
R. Meredith, Kt., 4 ?.alnport Ave., To.
ronto, or Mr. W. J. Gage, 54 Front St.
West, Toronto.

Green Cheese not wante;l bi ;Britain.
The Dairy Division, Ottawa, has
received advices from. Mr. A. W.
Grindley, Agent of the Department
of Agriculture, in Britain, to the
effect that the reputation of Cana-
dian cheese has been injured by the
large amount that has been song
frond, Canada this year in a 'green"
or uncured condition. Dealers
state Haat the great bulk of Cana-
dian eheese has been too immature
when shipped, and Canadians will
have only themselves to blame if
the British demand falls off from
such causes as these. It need not
be pointed out that a falling -off in
demand means 0 lower price. It is
simply a case of killing the goose
that lays gulden eggs."
When a salesman notes that the
tendency of the cheese market is
downward, he is naturally anxioels
to get rid of the stack ho has on
hand ; at other tinios ho thinks
that he will save the amount of the
shrinkage in curing by selling as
soon as possible. The exporter., on
the other hand, looking to his own
immediate profit on the transaetion
buys cheese that should be left in
the curing -room to ripen. The
salesman is disposed to blame the
exporter for the present condition
of things, and vice versa, but it
takes two to snake a bargain, and
it is safe to assume that both par-
ties are to blame in this case. It is
greatly to be regretted Cant for the
sake of a little temporary advant-
age both factorymen and exporters
should be willing to endanger a
trade, which has required so Many
years to reaeh its present high
standard, and which means so many
millions of collars to the farmers
of Canada. The patrons of fac-
tories would be consulting their
own interests by insisting that
their cheek should be held in the
curing room until it is in the best
condition to please the British con-
sumer.

"I have used Ayer's Hair Vigor
for over thirty years. It has kept
my scalp free from dandruff and
has prevented my hair from turn-

Billings, Mont.
There is this peculiar
thing about Ayer's Hair
Vigor—it is a hair good,
not a dye. Your hair does
not suddenly turn black,
look dead and lifeless.
Butgraduallythe old color
comes back,—all the rich,
dark color it used to have.
The hair stops falling, too.
