Saturday,. attending the Insurance meeting. The Hay Fire Insurance Com- pany held its monthly meeting in. the Town Hall, Znrieh, on Satur- day last. The Court of Revision for the Township will be held in the Town Hall, here, on Monday, commenc- ing at 10 a. in. Mr. Jacob Merrier bought a horse from Mr. Ed. Bossenberry. -The price is said to have been in the neighborhood of $130, Mr. Hardy and daughter, Mabel, of Dashwood, were in the village on Wednesday. the latter was the guest of Miss Ethel Williams. Mr. Pete Mouseau attended the races at Parkhill, on Monday. His horse took second money in the green race. after which he disposed of him to Banker O'Neil. of Exeter, for the handsome sum of $225.00. Mr. S. T. Hopper, graduate optic- ian, of Hensall, was in the village, on professional business, on Wed- nesday. It is a pleasure to do busi- ness with Mr. Hopper and his trade here will undoubtedly increase as he becomes better known. Mr. Jake Merger is. getting up in the world. His house is being raised, new sills are being put in and a stone foundation built under it. It will improve it both in looks and t:on1'fort. Mr. Philip Sipple has the work in hand.. A case of cruelty to animals was reported to us last -Week. This is - an offence, for which a heavy fine may be imposed, and we would ad- vise the party referred to not to re- peat it, lest a constable get wind of it and cause hint some trouble. Mr. Ches. Greb has changed the color of his residence from a, white brick to a light red. It seems to look bettier and gives the village the benefit of greater variety of colors. It is a handsome home and is a credit to both its owner and Zurich Mr. Faust has had a verandah built in front of his business block. It seems a trifle high to shield goods from the sun's rays, but as this can occur only late in the af- ternoon it cannot perhaps, clo much damage. Et adds greatly to the ap- pearance of the property. Peter Case, who lives near Hensall was in the village on Mon- dny,gind stopped over for a couple of hours. He was on his way to view the scenery and other sights at St. Joseph. Mr. W. H. Brown, and the two Misses 'Winds, of Crediton, were in the village on Sunday, and had clir•- ner at the ''Dominion," after which they proceeded. to St. Joseph, en route home. A carry -all load of young men of the village, drove out to the hole in -the -swamp, on Sunday af- ternoon. Loster, of Slabtown, has, we regret to say, suffered considerable loss in the death of his Clydesdale Stallion "Indian Chief," which he had just commenced to move for the season. The animal succumbed to inflammation on Tuesday morning. It is said to have had a good record among the farmers of the locality, and won many prizes throughout a wide ex- panse of territory. Mr. C. Greb, hardware merchant, has secured the contract to put metal roofs on three buildings, at Dashwood., and has already entered upon the fulfilment of it, Mr. Thos. Kelly, his foreman, being now there prosecuting the work. Mr. Jacob Weaver is the party contract- ed with, and the buildings to be covered are his resic.enae, barn and drive -shed. Mr. Greb seems to be rushing the metal roofing business this spring. Look out for then. A new bunco scheme is said to be practiced by men wearing a government badge. They are said to operate in stores, hotels -and other business places, where there is likely to be money on hand. .they represent them, selves as Government employees, connected with the secret service branch, and are usually in search of counterfeiters, who are supposed to be making the spurious article, in or near the vicinity. They ask to look over your cash drawer and this privilege is usually accorded them, when they generally succeed in finding several pieces which, are pronounced bogus These they Con- fiscate in the pante of the govern- ment, and depart to snake other ex- aminations and find other easy ones. If any of these well-dressed, slick - tongued gentry enter your store and talk counterfeit money to you don't be green enough, to let theist handle your money.
