The teachers in the school here
are in attendance at the Teachers'
convention, this week, at Exeter.
Yesterday, being Ascension Day,
there were services in all the Zur-
ich Churches, and all were well at-
tended.
Mrs. Schluchter (and. children)
of Sebewaing, Mich., is visiting her
parents, Mr and Mrs. Henry Rupp,
in the village.
Dr. Routhier and Mr. N.. M.
Cantin are at present hi St. Joseph
and a boom iii that town may be
looked for shortly.
The extremely hot and dry
weather is very :trying on spring
grain and farmers are very anxious
for a good shower.
Mr. Geo. Gabel, of the Bronson
line, got kicked by a horse, on Sun -
clay evening, with the result that.
his jaw -bone was fractured in three
places.
Reeve Lamont is in Toronto this
week, having gone there with .a
couple of carloads of fat cattle.
They were.all choice looking ani-
mals and should bring. fancy prices.

Mr. Zeller has moved to his farm,
adjoining the village, on the Eat
side. Be will still be on deck,
however, at his office, every day
during business hours to attend to
his duties, as usual.
Mr. A. E. Bradwin, of the Blyth
Standard gave THE IiERALD a
pleasant call, on his way to St.
Joseph. We always feel pleased
to have our bother newspaper men
call on us, more particularly men
of Mr. Braclwin's stamp. '
Our citizens and the general pub-
lic, should remember that the
store here close three evenings of
each week, viz : Tuesdays, 'Thurs-
days and Fridays, at 6 o'clock.
Take a mental note of this and you
will not be disappointed.
Mrs. Gerber and child, who were
here during a part of her father's
illness and was after visiting at
her brother's, Mr. Albert Zettel,
of the Blind line, left on Saturday
morning to join her husband, who
is a traveller, at Chicago, Ill.
Monday being Victoria Day and
a statutory holiday there will be
rio school on that day, .Our Hills -
green correspondent says 'that
there is a likelihood of the foot-
ball team of that place giving our
boys agame here on the evening of
that day. So far we hear of no
other doings in the village.
About 190 Tile, of various sizes,
have so far been made for the town
ship, and we understatnd that only
about one-half of the cement has
yet been used. Some of the tile
measures as much as 120 inches
rbttnd. The work bus been stopped
for a short time in order to let the
men employed do some wgrk else-
where,
Mr. Chas. Fritz, of this , village,
has purchased front Mr. N. M.
Cantin, of St. Joseph, a Mauser
rifle, which may have sent some of
the, British soldiers to their death.
It was, it is said, used in the late
Boer war, It is highly prized by
its present owner, We understand
Mr. Caitlin secured: it front the
Militia department, at Ottawa.
Messrs. Hess & Deioliatrt, fiticling
it utterly impossible to hire teams
at this season of the year, organiz-
ed a wood -hauling bee, on Monday
last, and had quite a 'nitrtibar of
their farther friends give them a
lift. All who were present seem to
have enjoyed themselves immense-
ly. About half the wood contracted
for has iiow beet delivered at Kip -
pen station and stint forward to the
consignees,

June. Father Aloisius will preach
in both. English and German, the
days and hours set forth on bills
issued for the purpose. Both
Catholics and others are invited to
attend.
The Council of the Township of
Hay are asking for tenders, for
“Schwalm Drain," for "Cement
Abutments" for Sauble Bridge and
for "Steel Saiperstructure" . for
same work. The bridge. is located
about 2 miles from Exeter station.
Plans and specifications and other
information may be hacl from Mr.
Fred Bess, the township clerk.
The Sovereign Bank is meeting
with good success since opening its
branch here, about 12 or 15 days
ago. It is doing a fairly good busi-
now. All persons who have any-
thing to do in that line should not
think of passing the hoino branch.

branch, Hensall, is a hustler after
business and is jL st the kind of man
to bring succes to anything with
which he has to do.
The foot -ball match which was
to have • taken place last Friday
night between the Drysdale and
Zurich teains did not take place
owing to the non-appearanc of the
Drysdale team. It was, a clisap
pointmentas the match hacl been
advertised and quite a number
were out to witness it. This kind
of thing won't do, unless a better
excuse than "best man laid up" is
found. . As it was .we had' a very
good match, the home team playing
against a mixed team from the
surrounding villages which result-
ed in a snore of 3 to 0 in favor of
the home team.

test as to Which is the faster skim-
mer. The test showed that
Schilbe's Empire skimmed '55 lbs.
of milk in 40 seconds less than.
Kipper's National. This should'
satisfy farmers which machine to
buy. Both machines were rated the
same capacity and the test was
made between the parties merely
to ]lave, the skimming merits of
both machines judged , for their
mutual satisfaction. Mr. Justus
Melick i4,agent for the Empire in
this district and refers 'intending
purchasers to either -of these gentle-
