Mr., Simon Dietrich and wife, of

Dr. Hamilton took possession of
W. H. Bender's confectionary busi-.
ness on Monday. He had the Zurich
Band at his opening.
The regular meeting of the W. C.
T. U. will be held at the home of
Mrs. H. Hegel, on Monday evening,
May 18th, at 8 o'clock sharp.
Mr. Thos. Kelly, of C. Greb's
establishment, was on the sick list
for a few days recently, but is now
recovered sufficiently to be at work
again, -
Mr, 'Wm. Miller started work in
his brick and tile works on the 15th

Messrs. Hess & Son sold two
handsome buggies to a couple of
gentlemen from Logan, last week.
They are to be delivered to their
owners this week.
Mr. Johnston. of the Dominion
House, disposed of a cow, to Peter
Lamont, on Friday for the sum of
•$46. She was a beauty and said to
be cheap at that price: •
Mr. Gibt. Dick. of Kippen, was
here, Friday, looking for cattle.
He got a few. Mr. Dick is a' hust-
ler and always quick to make a
bargain if there is any show to do
business.
Mr. C. Greb, hardware merchant
and tinsmith, put a metal roof on
Mr. Zimmerman's barn, in the
village, last week, and the work is
alike creditable to both owner and
contractor.
Mr. Jno. Deiehert was in Clinton
last week to see the Dr.. at the
Hospital. We regret to say that
he is not improving as fast as he
shouldand that another operation
may be necessary.
The many friends of Mrs.. C.
Soldan, will regret to learn that
she has been confined to bed by
illness, for several days past. THY;
ammo, with her many other
friends, hope for a speedy recovery.
Mr. Garnet Steinbach had a neai-
ly dressed window last week. The
variety and quantity of goods
shown and tasteful display made,
would seem to indicate that he is no
novice at the work
A vessel load. of cedar posts is
clue to arrive at St.Joseph from
the Manitoulin Island, and will be
for sale at that place shortly. Far-
mers needing posts should make a
note of this and govern themselves
accordingly.
Mr. Sidney Bosssenberry, of
Grand Bend, was in the village on
Thursday last, circulating a peti-
tion to the government, asking a
grant for the erection of a dock at
the former plaee. Quite a number
added their names to the paper.
Mr. Hintz & Son, of Logan, were
in the village on Tuesday, They
stopped over night at the Dominion
Hotel and their company was en-
joyed by all the guests as well as
the proprietor. Mr. Hintz is a
good talker and quite an entertain-
er as well.
E. A. Ahnond, the noted Eye
Specialist, of Guelph, will be at
the Dominion House, Zurich, on
May 12311 ; Dashwood, May 19th.

The first football match of ihe
season will take place here this
evening,commeneing at 6 130 o'clock
between the Drysdale and Zurich
clubs. Encourage the boys by your

The workmen employed in mak-
ing the Drain tile, in. the village,
for the Township seem to be mak-
ing good progress and good work.

Works, was in in village on Satnr-

Messrs. Dan. and August Koehler
returned on Monday, after a. few
clays' visit with their sister at
Sebringville.
Mr. Ed. Apple and son, victor,
returned on Monday evening from
Hiunburg, where they were visiting
friends for some days.
Mr. Win. Jarrott, teacher in
Goderich Township, was in the
village. on Saturday on his way
hoine—(or his adopted home)—to
spend Sunday.
The grader has been at work for
several clays past, tit St. Joseph,
preparing the ground for a race
course, The track is a half mile
one, and is nicely situated.
Mr. Robt. Stelck is, we are pleas-
ed to say, on deck ,tiguin in the
school room, having quite recover-
ed from his recent illness. He
reported for duty on Monday morn-
ing last, looking bright and cheer-
ful and D

Messrs. Hcs ichert, who
are in partnership in the wood
business, have disposed of 100
cords of beech and maple to Keller
& Southcott, of London, at a go -id
price. Teams are now engaged in
delivering it at Kippen station.
What might have been a serious
accident occurred to Mr. Louie
Prang, at Deichert & Son's black-
smith shop, here, 011 Thursday.
He was kicked at by an animal and
received the spent -force of the
blow on the eye, which produced a
scalp wound.
We omitted to mention in our
last issue, that the Band and other
friends gathered at the Dominion
House, to give mine host Shoe-
maker, it pleasant reminder of the
esteeni in which. he is held, the
evening of his retirement, Charlie
had an open honSe mest of tho
evening, but he isely excluded

ienee, while driving along the
Babylon line, last week, • when the
horse beetnne unmanageable and
started to run. Fortunately, by
some means, the reins became
tangled in the wheel and. the ani-
mal was guided to the fence, the
buggy upsetting mid throwing her
out as it bounded over the ditch.
Neither Mrs. Kalbileisch nor the
horse were injured. and the injury
to the buggy was slight.
