Mr. John Deichert Sr. attended
the funeral of the late H. G. Peine,
at Hamburg, this week. He also
visited his son John at the Clinton
Hospital and reports him progress-
ing favorably.

a relative.
Mr. Norman. Beaver, of Morris-
ton, visited his uncle, Mr. 0. Boltz-
mann, en Friday last.
Mr, Christian Schoch of the 1.1th
Con., left for Michigan yesterday
morning, to visitfriends.

Mr. Samuel Maurer, who was
visiting at Peter Koehler's, return-
ed to his home at Elmira, on

Mr. john Schafer attended the
funeral of Mr. Peine, this week,

lin and Waterloo.

Miss Dora Eilber returned on

Miss Fanny Geiger has returned
home from a visit to friends at
Berlin.
Fred Sehuettler has about 800
cedar stakes for sale. Apply to
him at once.
Mrs. D. Steinbach has taken
quite a sick spell recently and is
still unable to be out.
Mr. Wm. McOloy, general agent
for the Deering Harvester Co., was
in town on Wednesday.

Mr. John Dumart received a big

he is rushing off, prior to his de-
parture for ew Ontario.
The regular meeting of the W.
%T. U. will be held at the home
of Mrs. C. Fritz, on Monday even-
ing, March lath, at 7.30 p. m. All
the ladies are invited to attend.
Mr. Wes. Schoelling has purchas-
ed another team. He got ono of
them east of Clinton, the other
near Drysdale. Wes. received $300
for the team he sola last week.
The operation for appendicitis
performed on Mr, J. D. Merner, on
Wednesday evening, was not a suc-
cess, the seat of trouble not
being found. Mr. Merner's case is
somewhat puzzling to the medical
men in attendance.
The plant of the Seaforth Sun
was totally destroyed. by fire on
Saturday morning and. the loss,
which is covered by insurance Of
$2500, is estimated at $3400,
Brother Westcott has our sympathy
in his loss, but it is hoped that the
Sun will continue to shine as of
old.
A. E. Almond, M. 0., the noted
Eye Specialist of Park Ave.;Guelph,
is now staying at the Dominion
House, Zurichand will be there
until next Monday. If you are
having trouble with your oyes, it
will be to your advantage to call
and see him.. Consultations free of
charge.
George D. Grant, liberal, was
elected on Tuesday, for North
Ontario, in the ITousa of Commons,
by a majority of 166, His opponent
was Hon. Geo. E. Foster, ex -finance
Minister. Tho vacancy was caused
by the death of Angus McLeod,
conservative, who was elected. at
the general elections in 1000, by
over 500 majority.
POSTPONED—The meeting, under
the auspices of the Farmers' Assoc-
iation has been postponed until
Saturday evening the 14th inst.,
when a mass inecting will be held,
at Coxworth's Hall, Hensel'.

LETTER FROM DAROTA..—In renew-
ing his subscription to Tun HER-
ALD, Mr. John Zeller, a, former
resident of this section, among
other things writes :—''I sold my
farm of 320 acres, last spring, for
$'20.00 an acre. y crop last sum-
mer consisted of 2000 bushels of
Wheat, 2477 of oats and 1000 of
barley," Mr. Zeller also writes
that he has removed to Langdon
so as to be.nearer school. We are
pleased to hear of John's pros-
perity.
Mr. Henry A. Dietz, an old resi-
dent of this Township, died on
Saturday last at•the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Ed. Axt, Zurich, at
the age of eighty one years, five
months and two days. Tho re-
mains were interred on Tuesday
morning, in the Bronson lino ceme-
tery and were followed by a largo
number of his neighbors and
friends. Rev. W. J. Yager of the
Evangelical church officiated at the
funeral. Tho deceased leaves a
grown-up family to mourn his loss.

01? ROMAN CATHOLIC SEPARATE
SCHOOL SECTION NO, 1, HAY, FOR
1903.
A .By.Law to raise by way of loan the
sum of $1000 for the purposes here-
inafter mentioned.
Whereas' repairs to the school house of
Roman Catholic Separate School Section
No 1, Hay, have become necessary;
And Whereas the estimated cost of said
repairs is the sum of $1000;
And whereas the Trustees of the said
Separate School Section are authorized by
Revised Statutes of Ontario, chapter '204,
section 61, to borrow the necessary funds
for such repairs upon the debentures of
the said Board of Trustees as hereinafter
mentioned;
And whereas the amouut, of the whole
rateable property of the said Separate
School Section, according to the last
revised assessment of the said Separate
School Section, is the sum of $06000, and
it will require the sum of $62.83 to be
raised annually by special rate for the
payment of the said debt as hereinafter
tnentioaed, and also the sum of $50 to be
raised annually for the payment of interest
as hereinafter mentioned;
And whereas there is no existing deben-
ture or other debt of the • said Separate
Sellout Section;
Be it therefore enacted by the Trustees
of Roman Catholic Separate School Sec-
tion, No 1, Hay:
1. That the Trustees of the said
Separate School Section shall raise by way
of loam from any person or persons, body
or bodies corporate, who may be willing to
advance the samo on the, debentures here-
inafter mentioned, the stun of $1000.
2. That the Trustees aforesaid shall
cause to be made any number of deben-
tures not less than $100 each, and not
exceeding in the aggregate the sum of
$1000, which shall be payable not later
than twelve years from the 13th day el
December, 1903, toil debenrures
shall be sealed with the corporate seal of
the said Board of Truttees and signed by
the Chairman and Secretary thereof, and
shall have attached hereto e(I1)Oes fur
the annual payment of interest thereon at
the rate of five per cent, per annum.
3. That to provide for the payment
of said debentures the sum of $02.83 in
addition to all other rates shall be levied
and collected by special rate upon all the
rateable property in the said Separate
School Section annually during twelve
years, the currency of the said debentures
or any of them, and also for the purpose of
paying the interest on the said debentures
the: stim of $30.00 shall, in addition to all

the currency of the said debentures or any
of them.
4, This By -taw shall take effect on aid
from the 7th day of March, the day of the
passing hereof.

passed by the Board of Trustees of Hainan
Catholic Separate School Section, No. 1,
on the seventh clay of March, A. D.,
1003: And all persons are hereby requir-
ed to take notice that any one desirous of
applying to have such By-Law,or any part
thereof, quashed, must snake his applica-
tion for that purpose to the High Court of
justice within three months next after
the publication of such By -Law and this
notice once a week for three successive
weeks in the newspaper called the Zurich
Herald, or he will be too late to be heard
in that behalf.
