It isn't so difficult to strengthen
a weak stomach if one goes at it
correctly. And this is true of the
heart and kidneys. The old fash-
ioned way of dosing the stomach
or stimulating the heart or kidneys
is surely wrong! Dr Shoop first
pointed out this error, "Go to the
weak or ailing nerves of 'these or-
gans" said he, Each inside organ
has its controlling or "inside ner-
ve." When these nerves fail then
those organs mrst surely falter.
This vital truth is leading druggists
everywhere to dispense and recom-
mend Dr Shoop'e Restorative A

MARRIED TO A DRUNKARD
She ceased'. Our eyes were rivet-
ed upon her wan face. Some of the
women present sobbed aloud, while
there was scarcely a dry eye in
that temperance meeting. We saw
that she had not done speaking,
and was only waiting to subdue
her emotion to resume her story.
"For two years," she continued,
"I was a mental wreck. Then I
recovered from the shock, and ab-
sorbed myself in the care of my
boy. But the sin of the father was
visited upon the child, and six
months ago my boy of eighteen
was placed in a drunkard's grave ;
and as I, his loving mother stood
and saw the sod. heaped over him.
I said, 'Thank God! I'd rather see
him there than have him live a
drunkard, and I turned unto my
desolate home a childless woman—
one upon whom the hand of God
had rested heavily.
"Girls, it is you I wish to rescue
from the fate that overtook me.
Do not blast your life as I blasted
mine ; do not be drawn into the
madness of marrying a drunkard.
You love him ! So much the worse
for you ; for, married to him, the
greater will be your misery because
of your love. You will marry and
then reform him, you say. Ah ! a
woman sadly overrates her streng-
th wlien she undertakes to do this.
You are no match for the giant de-
mon 'drink,' when he possesses a
man's body and soul. You are no
match for him, I say. What is your
puny strength beside his gigantic
force? He will crush you, too. It is
t0 save you, girls, from the sorrows
that wrecked my happiness, that 1
have unfolded my history to you.
I am a stranger in this great city.
I am merely passing through it;
and I have a message to bear to
every girl in America -never harry
a drunkard!"
I can see her now, us she stood
there amid the hushed audience,
her dark eyes glowing, and her
frame quivering with emotion, as
she uttered her impassioned ap-
peal. Then she hurried out, and
we never saw her again. Her words
"fitly spoken," were not without
effect, however, and because of
them there is one girl single now.
The End.

—WEEITTLN FOR—
THANKSGIVING- DAY
BY REV. C. C. J. MAASS.
Kissed by sunshine, lulled by breezes, lieth mine own native land,
With the waves of mighty oceans breaking on its shining sand,
Countless lakes and winding rivers, almost lost in depths of green.
Fairest flowers entwine to crown Thee, Canada, the Northern Queen.
From the broad Atlantic Ocean greets the early morning ray,
From the west with tender blessing smiles on thee each dying day.
In the frosty nights of winter flames and sparkles heaven's dome
Over snowclad hills and mountains, o'er my blessed Northern home.
Gold and silver in the mountains, but a grander blessing yield
Manitoba's fertile prairie and Ontario's harvest field,
All the millions of thy children prosper in thy tender care,
Richest country of all countries, Canada, the bright and fair.
In the forests by the lake shore sighs the cooling evening breeze,
And the robin sings thy glories in the pines and maple trees,
And the sound of waves and billows, and the storm's tremendous roar
Shout thy praises, Northern beauty, carry them from shore to shore.
Like the pine -trees on thy mountains grow thy sons so brave and true,
And thy daughters like the roses glistening in the morning dew,
Fcr thy friends thou hast a blessing, but with weapons' clang and din
Greatest thou the foreman's armies, thou the Northern heroine.
Proudly from thy rocks and towers let thy flags and banners wave!
God protect thee, blessed country of the stalwart, free and brave,
With the thistle, rose and shamrock with the laurels fresh and green
Wreathe thy brow a glorious victrix, Canada, the Northern Queen.
