A lady exhibitor at the recent
fair lost a sideboard scarf, and
en.wishes to have it -returned to this,

By an error last week, we stated
that Mrs. (Dr.) Wilson had return-
ed, She is still at her home in
Palmerston.
Messrs. Chas. Fritz and Hurley
' Weber attended the shooting
tournament at Clinton, on 'Wednes-
day.
The baseball meeting was well
attended on Friday evening last.
As soon as the ground gets in shape
for ploughing the grounds will be
leveled and seeded down, and other
improvements made.

Swamp fires are becoming serious
owing to the continued dry weath-
er. A number of farmers in this
Township and also in Stanley, have
to keep a continual watchon their
buildings, and all aro anxiously
waiting for a good shower. .
A large number of the stalwarts
of both parties.attended the nomi-
nation at Hensall, on Monday.

Messrs. McLean and Sherritt Mr.
Mowat of Toronto and Mr. Spotton
of Wingham.
The quintette of sports, who
spent a week at the pinery return-
ed on Tuesday evening. The un-
loading was watched by our re-
porter and looked something like

A young man from a. neighboring
village behaved rather badly on
our streets last Friday evening,
and should have spent the night in
the lock-up.
The members of the W. C. T. U.
will meet at the home of Mrs. Dan

Oct. 28th at 2.30, to hold their an-
nual election of officers.
Mr. Jacob Koehler bought Mr.
Schoellig's farm last week for
$4550.00. Mr. lehaehler now has 200
aeras. This same farm •was sold
for $5000.00 about 20 years ago.
Mr. Chris Bechler, who is opera-
ting the Blake chopping and cider
mill, will chop every Tuesday and
Friclay, and on Wednesday of each
week will make cider and. apple
butter.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Wheatly of
Clinton, visited at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. R. Armstrong Goshen
Line Stanley, for a few days, last
week.
Tho Editor spent a day recently
with Mr Daniel Smith, near St.
Joseph, and -was shown over his
big fruit garden, comprising about
5 acres and containing nearly 300
nice healthy peach trees, besides
strawberry plants, red and black
raspberries and thinble berries.
The ground, which is inclined to
be sandy, seems the ideal spot for a
peach orchard, and if those now
out withstand another winter, it is
Mr. Smith's intention to plant sev-
eral thousand trees.

The regular meeting of the W.
C. T. U. which- was held at the
home of Mrs. 0. Fritz, on Wednes-
day afternoon, was opened by ilirs.
(Rev.) Gischler, who vete- ably
took charge of the Devote,eBay half
hoar. Miss Ella Rennie than gave
the report of the County W. 0',, T,
'CJ. convention, which was held at
Brussels, Oct. 6-7. Mrs. Gischler
and Mrs. ]=leyroek then rendered a
duett. The treasurer reported $5.00
being sent to the Missionary aild
Lumber Canip Department. It was
decided that Miss Ethel Willianis
represent our society at the Pro.
vincial convention, to be held at
Barrie.
