T. Snowden of the firm of Snow- den Bros., bas at present a fine lot. of hogs which lie has been exhibi- ting at the recent fall fairs. Mr. Snowden is a man of wide agricul- tarsi attainments, and keeps in his possession only such classes of hogs as best meet with the approval of the judges of agricultural fairs. When two newspaper correspon- dents unite their forces and give in the newspaper a few ocular de- monstrations of their journalastio skill in commemorating the numer- ous conspicuous and incidental events of their surrounding locality it is the universal tendency of the people of that locality, to believe that the vocabulary of these cor- respondents, is too complicated for their diminutive comprehension and ask them to have it simplified. We no longer live in a remote age similar to that of the Mound Build- ers, Jacques Cartier, champlain or the North American Indians, but rather in a more illuminated mod- ern period, unprecedented in the annals of biography in which hero- ism, and manly determination, annalgamated with invincible en- ergy and patriotism, should be the salient and predominant features of our lives, and in which asperity and undeserved criticism should be considered unchaste and absurd. Truth is the essence of principle integrity and independence and shall be the policy of the writer in the future as well as in the past To The Electors of South Huron. Gentlemen,—On the 22nd of Jan. last you did me the honor of elect- ing me as your representative to the Dominion Parliament, for which I return you my sincere and heart -felt thanks. As Parliament has been dissolved and another election will be held on Monday, Oct. 26th, I am again a candidate for your suffrages As I have only been permitted to have part of one session I think in justice to the constituency as well as to myself, it is only fair to ask a renewal of your confidence for at least a full term. This 1 now ask at your hands, and should you see fit to thus favor me, I promise you that no effort will be spared on my part to advance the best interests of niy constituents and the welfare of our growing and prosperous country. Before the close of the campaign I hope to have the privilege of meeting with many of you person• ally and of discussing with you the great public issues which are now so earnestly engaging the attention of the people of this country. Again soliciting your suffrages and support, I am, Your Obedient Servant, M. Y. McLEAN, Liberal Candidate for South Hu- ron. A heavy iainfall visited the country surrounding the village of Drysdale on Monday last, and as a eonsegnonce things in general have put ou a real life like aspect. The bean crop in this vicinity as reported by our agriculturists is said to be of an inferior quality. No doubt the excessive heat and the absence of rainfall may be as- cribed to be the principal cause of the above failure. H. W.
