certainly in need of such an organi-

According to a report which ap-
peared in the Free Press of Thurs-
day last it is almost an assurred
fact that Exeter will -have a radial
railway running through it in the
near future. The item in part says ;.
The line will run from Stratford to
Exeter, Hensall, St, Joseph and the
shores of Lake Huron. The finan-
cial end of this project is settled
and the promoters, headed by I,1r.
Reed, the multimillionaire. of New
'York. will cause a commencement
to be made almost immediately ; in
fact, Engineer J. Lewis Thomas, of
this city, has been retained as
engineer and he has already peg-
ged out a section of the road reedy
for the contractors, and when in-
terviewed last night by a reporter
was busy on the plans of the road"

their annual tournament on Thurs-

Miss Ida Well and Miss Clara
Koehler, are visiting friends in
Clinton, this week.
'Mrs. MoWatters and child, have
returned from a visit to friends at
Toronto and Raglan.
Miss Helma Koehler returned to
Toronto on Monday, after spending
her vacation at home.
This town was well represented
at the Laurier Demonstration, at
Clinton, on Wednesday.
Mrs.. frank Jacob and children of
Sebrtngviile, are visiting at the
home of her brother, Dr. E. Stos.

ling, to Mr. Josiah Geiger, who
takes possession on the lst of Oct.

the Upper Canada Bible Society
will deliver an address in the Evan-
gelical church. neat Tuesday even-
ing, Sept. 29th, The Rev. gentle-
man is a clever speaker. Those
who had the pleasure of hearing
him ayear age, will be anxious to
hear him again,
Mr. and Mrs. T. Emery of Sarnia,
are visiting friends in : town, this

morning, for her adopted home, in
Detroit.

Miss Margaret Demuth, who for
years has been a resident of the
United States, is home visiting her

The feature of Mr. Borden's tour
will be the appearance on the save

with him at Halifax along with
Hon . W. J. Hanna. Premier
Whitney is expected to return from
England in time for the Pembroke
meeting, and Premier McBride is
expected to be there also.
The Minister of Militia made an
important annoucement regarding
the Government's policy in regard
to militia training in the public
schools of the Dominion. He stat-
eci that an order -in -council had
been passed authorizing the u?slitia
department to enter into ali''rree-
ment with the • Province of Nova
Scotia, in which the Government
is prepared to furnish to''the schools,
free of charge, competent instruc
tors and ammunition. In return
for this the educational department
of the province will be compelled
to have their teachers qualify as
physical culture and drill instruc-
tors. Sir Frederick also said that
the order -in -council permitted the
department to enter into the same
agreement with the other provin-
ces.
