LABOR -DAY R :ACES.
A large crowd, estimated) at a
thousand attended the race meet-
ing here on Monday. The day wits
ideal for an outing, though a trifle
cool for the best racing results.
The best time made was uuder 2.25
and this is considered good, as the
track is some seconds slow owing
to two turns not being in the best
condition. The Turf Club has
every reason to be satisfied with
the result and they can confidently
look forward, to make next year's
events more attractive than ever.
Mrs; C. F. Hey of Bad Axe, Mich,
is spending the week at the home
of J. W. Horner.
(Fromanother Correspondent)
The shore of Lake Huron adjac-
ent to the village of Drysdale is
rapidly becoming notorious as an
appropriate place for summer visit
ors. The gentle sloping character
of the beach at this point, the
beautiful cedar groves and the
fresh and exhilarating atmosphere
of the hike all conform to =met
with the approval of summer
pleasure seekers.
BOWLING
Two Zurich rinks took a trip to
Crediton on Friday, for a friendly
combat with the bowlers of that
place, and while not able to claim
a victory, the locals acquitted
themselves very creditably consid-
ering that all are first year players.
The following is the score :—
Be Prepared
For Emergencies
°
If you, live in small vile
° lage or country district, you
will appreciate the value of
a telephone.'
Haven't there been times
when you would have given
a good deal to communicate
° with a friend.
Or, perhaps you needed
the services of a doctor, in
a hurry but had no way .of
onimunioating with him,
at once.
The minutes seemed like
hours, didn't they, when
you've had to suffer while
° the doctor was being sent
for?
Have one of our telephon-
e
es placed in your house and
so be prepared to summon
the doctor at a moment's
notice.
A short delay in getting
a doctor may mean life or
® death, so why take chances,
why not be prepared. for
any eniergeney?
Suppose a fire should
occurs and your wife and
children were alone, what
tprotection would they have
if there was no telephone in
the house?

On Friday evening the Crediton
stars were successful in defeating
our ball team, by a score of 9 to 11,
in a six inning game. The playing
was no ways brilliant, in fact
some parts of the game bristled
with costly errors by our infielders,
and it was due to these that the
game was Iost by our team. Credi-

fact that the Stars have met and
defeated teams from London, and
