BASEBALL
•••.•••••••.• ,•••••
On Tuesday evening our baseball
team hied themselves to Hensall to
enjoy a game with the team of
that place. The game was to start
at 5 o'clock, but owing to some
delay it was six before the merry-
go-round started. Zurich went to
bat first, no score Hensall the
same. In the next two our boys"
scored 2 each and Hensall was
blanked. The 4th innings was a
cipher for each side, and at the
end of the 5th the score stood 8-0
in favor of the Datchmen. In the
6th is where the fun really began,
the diamond resembling a race
course for a time, Zurich. adding 5
more runs. and Honsall an only 1.
This made the count look like thiS:
13-1. In the 7th and last both sides
batted their opponents' twisters
rather freely, Zurich again scoring
5 and Hensall 3, Botb teams play-
ed a good game and the fielding
was lmost errorless on both sides.
It was mainly a pitcher's battle
and the Hensall team simply
couldn't connect with the curves
and cork -screws that Harvey Weber
dished up to them. During the first
five innings no Hensall player got
beyond 2nd base. Holly Little is a,
bird behind the bat, and as for the
rest, the remark of one of the
Hensall spectators when he said -
"those Zurich fellows are all Over
the field" tells the rest of the story
George Hess umpired the game to
the satisfaction of all. Thefollo w-

Our bast:dnill teem have made an
enviable record. so far, this season.
Out of four games played they
ha ven' t lost one.
The return match between Hen -
sail and Zurich. baseball teams will
likely be played on the local ground,
a week from this (Friday) •evening.
Mr Hurley Weber played a great
game at :theist, on Tuesday evening,
He seems to be the stuff that pro-
fessional ball tossers are made of.
The Zurich nine are playing ball
for a silver cup at Grand Bond, es
we go to press, and in. our next is-
sue we will tell you which player
rallied the cup home. We name
Charlie Fritz for the honor of
bringing it to Zurich.
Se miter Samuel l‘Terner, broth or
of Mr. Gottlieb Merner of this
phiee, died at Berlin on Tuesday,
in his 86th year. Mr. Merner was
born Switzerland and came to
Canada in 1837, and was elected a
member of the House of Commons,
for South Waterloo in 1878. In
1882 he was appointed to the Senate
by the late Sir John A. MacDonald.
His funeral took place yesterday
at Berlin.
