Mr. Thomas Brownlee, principal of the Bayfield school, died on Sat- urday evening from an attack of • pneumonia. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, and was largely attended. Mr. Ernst Gies, who recenty re- tired to town, is doing all kinds of planning and scheming now that he has some time on his hands. His latest, so he says is to get a double return from his hens, by placing electric lights in the pen, the idea being of course to turn night into day or in other words, to fool the hens. Mr. Gies informed THE HERALD that his brother Henry, of Si. Jacobs, has also a new way of increasing the flow of hen fruit, and for the price of a year's sub- scription he would put us next to the scheme. This looks too much like a confidence game to swindle the poor editor and we will have to pass it over for the present. The first snatch for the shoes donated to the Gun Club by Mr. Pain of London, was held on Tues- day evening. The, club medal went to F. W. Loess, after an exciting shoot -off with Sant Faust.
