A large gathering of temperan;e
workers from the several districts
of Huron County met in Ontario
Street Methodist Church Thurs-
day and formed an association to
be known as the Huron Branch of
the Ontario Prohibitory Alliance.
The changes in the ridings neces-
sitated reorganization of existing
branches, and the committee on
organization reported in favor of
one set of officers for the county,
with vice presidents for each ...of
the three ridings. Delegates were
present from all parte of the Coun-
ty, and a good deal of enthusiasm
was displayed. Mr. G. M. Elliott.
Goderich, acted as chairman until
the election of the new president,
Mr. F. Buchanan, of Wingharn.
A committee was appointed to
prepare a report on local option,
which it did as follows :—
"We are of opinion it is desirable
to get as many municipalities as
possible to enter on a united cam-
paign, and recommend that steps
be taken by this organization to
secure concerted action in adjoin-
ing municipalities to have the by-
law take effect at the same time."
The discussion which toll.
showed that local option w
.permost in the minds of those pre-
sent, and gratification was expres-
sed at the progress already reads,
as there aro now nine "dry" muni-
cipalities in the county, and Gode-
rich and Wingham are already in-
to a campaign. Other places will
follow, and the opinion was ex-
pressed that it would not be long
before Huron, with perhaps only a
few exceptions. -will be free from
the licensed barroom.
The following resolution was
passed unanimously. with instrue
tions to forward it to the Provin-
cial Secretary :
"That your committee on law en•
forcement after hearing complaints
from the different municipalities
of Huron County, regarding the
enforcement of the Liquor License
Act, are of the opinion that the
License Inspector for South Huron
is at the present time making an
honest effort to enforce the law as
in his dower. Regarding the Licen-
se Districts of West and East Hu-
ron, reports as to the enforcement
are very unsatisfactory, and "WP
know that the present inspectors
for those two Ridings are not pro-
perly enforcing the law, and
strongly recommend their removal
from office. We also respectfully
suggest that the Inspectors be men
who live in central portions of the
Ridings.
Moved by Rev`. T. S. Snowden,
seconded. by Rev. J. Greene. and
carried :
"That this Convention places on
record its regret that the handicap
of the three -fifth majority required
to bring Local Option into operat-
ion, rests upon ns, and most
strenuously,urges the government
to do awaylIwith this grievous,
burden, which so seriously operates
to hold back and discourage this
great moral movement.
It was moved by J. R. Govan -
lock seconded by Rev. H. E. Currie
and caraied, "that riding chair-
man call upon Liberal and Con-
servative candidates, and ask their
support in abolishing the three-
fifths olease, also in securing legis-
lation in thebest interests of tem-
perance. In case all candidates
pledge themselves, electors will be
at liberty to vote for the candidate
of their choice ; should only one
candidate do so, we throw our
support and influence in his favor ;
should neither do so we bring out
a candidate ourselves."""...:.q

There's no mystery in good paint making.
It's only "cheap" and inferior paint that sur-
rounds itself with secrecy and mystery.
THE SHERWIN-WILLIAMS PAINT
is not a "patent" or "chemical" paint.
There's no secret or mystery about it. It's
a pure lead, pure zinc, and pure linseed oil
paint. It's better than other paints made
from the same materials, because the
methods and manufacturing facilities of its
makers are better—not be-
cause they have any patent
or secret scheme.
