Meliok attended the ministerial meeting and Sunday School con- vention held at Tauistock this week A petition to the Dominion government asking for the com- pletion of the approach to the St, Joseph dock is being largely signed by- ertizensof titin• section. Word was received hero last week of the death of Mrs. Adolph Steinbach, which sad event took place at her home near Cavalier N. D. The funeral was held on Mon- day. Mr. Steinbach is a son of Mrs. J. C. Kalbfieisch, of this vil lege, and he will have the sympathy of many friends here in his severe affliction. Arrangements for the school pic- nic to be held at Grand Bend next Tuesday are well under way and it" promises to be a good one. The carryalls will leave the public school alt 7.30 a. mn., and the basket wa.gcn will call for the baskets es usual. The Silver Jubilee Band has been engaged and will furnish music during the day. A special message has been sent to Hicks. the weather man, and he promise' fine weather for that day. You will miss it if you do not attend. WEEKLY SHOOT. The following particulars regard- ing the sad and early demise of William Demuth, are taken from nt Ashland, Wis., paper, of June 3 : Will Demuth, the baker, well known in Ashland for the past twelve years, died early this morn- ing at the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Demuth, after a brief illness, which commenced Satsrday evening, June 2nd. Mr. Demuth drove his delivery wa.gon as usual Saturday and was down town in the evening, baying a suit of clothes. Ile took sick later on, end died about 3 o'clock this morn- ing. He was born at Zurich., Ontario 29 years ago. He leaves a father, mother, and two sisters in this city and a number of relatives in Cana- da. Mr. Demuth was a member of Odd Fellows order, and of the liodern Woodmen. He was a man of the strictest integrity, and cor- rect principles, a law abiding and God fearing man. The postmortem, disclosed the fact, that death was caused by the rupture of st. blood vessel at the base of the brain. Mrs. P. Sipple is visiting relativ- es in Detroit end Lansing, Mich. Miss Maggie Shoemaker of Park- hill visited friends here on Sunday. A. Zettle and family have moved into a dwelling on the Babylon Line. C. Miller, of Dakota, is visiting his mother, Mrs. Miller, of this village, at present. Mr, H. J. D. Cooke, barrister, of Hensall, was a business visitor in Zurich on Wednesday. She will continue to conduct her confectionery store as usual. Rev. A. D. Gischler conducted, quarterly services at Dashwood last S tturday, in place of Rev. L. H. Tietuell of Dashwood were in town Tuesday evening. Wm. Hall, of Blake, has totrght the Quigley property, whieli ad- joins his oven, in that village. Yungblut -' & Deseliert -' have bought a horse from W. L. :Keys, Stanley.` and C. Eilber has purchas- ed one of D. Wilson's drivers. Miss Ge>;<,trode Reider, who has been assisting in J. Preeter'e linery department, left Inst; week for the west,'where her parents are locating. A large automobile passed throu- gh the village on Sunday. On the car were Mr.'"and Mrs, G. M. The report of the Sovereign Bank which ves;submitted to the share- holders on Monday is of a rea sur- ing character. The new .ma'lrage- ment have carefully examined the assets, whio1 amount to. about $25,000,000, ad the result is said to be satisfactory. The liabilities are X,19,700,000, or about 76 per cent of total assets. Next week is certainly a week of events and it would keep a, person busy attending all the attractions.
