FRIDAY, JUNE 7th, 1907. From Philadelphia, Penn. Philadelphia June 2, 1907; Dear Editor—Will you please al- low a space in your valuable paper for the following. As I was born and raised in Zurich 1 think it would be of great interest to my school friends and former compan- ions to know something of Phila- delphia, and how I ant enjoying me, stay here. as it is now about seven weeks that I have been here. I never seen such a wonderful City. I am now clerking in one of the largest stores which employs about seven thousand people. I am living abont three squares from :Fairmont Park, which is the largest park in the world, free to all as it is owned by the city, covering in all, one thousand five hundred acres. We also have eight or nine other parks but of smaller size in which we have every amusement possible. The trolley -car service is very fine. They aro on most all the streets, also over head and under ground on the main streets. .A few squares from where I live I oan get a train to any part of the United States end Canada. There are trains leaving the pity every min- ute of the day. The Baldwin Loco- motive works which is the largest of its kind in the world are situat- ed here. They employ about twen- ty-six thousand men and finish about eighty to ninety engines per week which are sent all over the world. There are also about eighty daily papers which are brought to the different houses early every morning We have some very large build- ings, they are from sixteen to twenty-five stories high, but the finest f all is the city hall. It is 5145 feet in height The building cost twenty-five million dollars. On the top of the tower is the statue of William Penn, the found- er of the city, thirty-six feet high. three men can walk on top of his hat. We also have a clock on the tower which is twenty-four feet in diatneter. The hands are about twelve feet and the numbers four feet lung. and we can see to know the time for miles away, Of all the wonderful and interest- s sin Plti} dolphia , I could • tri b'ek. r'yjiI now close my letter. Hoping mYemany friends can get it general idea of what Philadelphia is like, and wish to surto if any of my friends would like to know more of Philadelphia I would gladly answer their letters. With Pert regards to all. Morris Weber, West Philadelphia, 4207 Wyalusing Ave Penn. Bill Nyo when a young than once made a.n engagement with a lady friend of Tile to take her driving of a Sunday afternoon. The appoint- ed day came, but at the livery stable all the horses were taken out save one old, shaky, exceeding- ly bony horse. Mr. Nye hired the nag and drove to his friend's residence. The lady. let him wait nearly an hour before she was ready, and then on viewing the disreputable outfit, flatly refus- ed to accompany Mr. Nye. "Why," she exclaimed, sneering- ly, "that horse may die of age any moment." "Madam," Mr. Nye replied,, "when I arrived that horse was a, prancing young steed,"—Froin Harper's Weekly. TONIGHT. Fred Ltiaton of Usborne was the unfortunate, victim of a painful ac- cident last week.
