Mrs. Witwer, on Wednesday after,
noon, May 1st, commencing at

'WEEKLY SHOOT.
The weekly shoot of the Gun
Club was held en Tuesday after-
noon. A number of the shooters
(inlaid not he present. W. G. and
F. W. Hess were tied for the medal
hy a score of nine each, and in the
shoot off F. W. won out. The
score.

While Mr. -Henry Zinsraerman
-was driving into town from the
weer, with a horse and cart on
Tuesdrnoon, the annual be-
came WrirrItinti.geable. It ran madly
down Ibe :street with Mr. Zimmer-
-men -who wrs powerless to stop it.
It collided with a tree opposite
Hoffmen's tenet shop, and in the
spill Mr. Zimmerman was seriously
injured. It seems that when the
cart struck the tree, be was thrown
forward against the tree, and

leZATH OF CATHERINE KLEIN.
On Wednesday, April e4th, the
spirit of Miss Catherine Klein pas
eed peacefully awny. The deceased
had made her home with her sister,
Thos Johnsen, of this village
for many years. She was afflicted
rberunatism, and was an in-
valid for twent-tatwo yeers, but
she Imre her enfiering with a re-
signed spirit, alwuys trusting in
the Inertly of her Saviour. For the
past few weeks she gradually grew
weaker, until death relieved her
as above stated. A. short service
was held Thurscley forenoon, when
the reinains were conveyed to her
brother's hone in Baden, where
the funeral takes plane to -day, in-
terment in' the Baden Cemetery.
SMALLPDX SITUATION.
We are pleased to state that the
smallpox situation in Hay and
1-3tephen is not nearly so bad as it
was at first thought; to be. The
eisease is of a very mild tyye and
it; most of the oases no medical at-
tention is neceesary. By reports
which appeared in the London Free
Press road *Advertiser it would a.p
peer that all of Flay and Stephen
township was infected. The
disease has been confined to a small
territory and it is hoped with the
advent of wanner weather that it
will soon cliseppear. A report was
oirculated moorne of the neighbor
ing towns that many houses in
Zurich had been quarantined, This
report is unfounded as thus far not
a single case has been reported ie
this village. In fact there fire nr
enses within three miles of Zurich

left on Monday , for Saskatoon,
Sask., but when she reached Lon-
don one of her children took sick
and she waseompolled to return.
Ten less licenses will be in force

recently sold a 2 -year-old colt to
Jos. Sohwartzentrubor, of the
Bronson Line, for $180.00. Mr.
Sohwartzentrubor has purolmsed
film on the Bronson and, will work

Mr. Win. Calfas brought his new
traction eneine and separator to
Zurich on siednesday. The mach-
ines were made bv White & San,
-Londen, and Mr. Calfas new lots

fitted out with "Wieser, etn., and
Mr. ehtlfeafeels satiefied that he
now.
Some of nnr canteens have been
experimenting with salt and ache;,
the sew kind of feel. The mixture
consists of one pert of ashes mixed
with three parts ot coal. which is
formed into a paste with the ad-
dition of salt water. lt. is said
that about 40 per cent of the coal
bill can be saved by lnirning this
fuel. Those who have tried it have
met with varying success.
