Temperance Convention.
The annual meeting of the South
Huron Anti -Barroom League waa
held in the Methodist Church. Hen-
sen, on the afternoon of Monday
April 8th, the vice-president, Miss .
Jeannie Murray, presiding in the
absence of the Pres., Rev, 'W. M.
Martin. After the opening devo-
tional services the secretary read
the zninutes of last meeting- which
were drily approved on motion. De-
legates from the different municipa-
lities which conducted Local Option
campaigns last fall gave brief
reports of leow the work seas con-
ducted which brought one the' fact
that success in a Local Option
campaign requires thorough and
efficient organization, a minute
personal canvass, the liberal dis-
tribution of good literature e -and
plenty of hard work and where
t this was not done the local option
: by-law failed to carry. '
•
The prospects for egressive tem-
perance work in other municipali-
ties of the Riding was next discus-
sed end a strong deputation was
appointed to wait upon License
Commissioners, which meet in
Elensall on April 19th at 10 a. m.,
and interview them in regard to
having some licenses in the cul -
1 stituency cut off, particularly in
the township of Stephen and if the
deputation failed to accomplish

:Resolved that we the members of
the South Huron Anti -barroom
League in convention -assembled
put ourselves on record as being
strenuously opposed to the three -
fifth requirement in Local Option
law as being un -fair and un; British
the majority ruling in all other
similar matters, and that a copy of
this resolution be sent to the Pre-
mier, the Provincial Secretary and
the local member in the Legisia-
tare.

died on Sunday last.
Clinton council has Passed a
by-law to raise licenses on transient
traders, Hawkers selling on foot
will have to pay a fee of $50 ; and
from "wagon $75, and transient
traders a fee of $150.
M.edo C. Whiddon, one ,of Bay -
field's Most respected young igen,
died on Friday, March 29th, at the
age of 19 years. He was a victim
of consumption. The funeral on
the following Monday was one of
the largest ever seen in Bayfield.
John McQueen, of the London
road. presented his nephew, J. H.
O'Neil, who resides with him, a
clean deed of 50 acres of choice
land in Stataley township. The
land in the south half of lot 20,
con, 1, adjoining Mr, McQueen's
farm,

trouble the dearth occurred on Stin-

Mr. Houlaban was a teacher by
profession and spent a year or two
in the north west, returning to
Onterio a. little over a year ago at
the time of the death of his wife.

The tax -Students of the Goderich
Collegiate Institute intend holding
a grand: reunion on Thursday and
Friday,. August 22nd, and 23rd of
this year. The reunion will em-
brace all pupils of the school from
its commencetnent in. 1841. A cir-
cular is being prepared to be. sent
to all ex -students whose addresses
can bo ascertained. There are alto-
gether between two and three
thousand names on the roll.
