TWO BARNS BURNED.
A severe electrical storm passed
over this section last Saturday
night, but to the north of us it
se owed to grow in intensity, and
the lightning played dangerously
near. Two barns were struck and
totally destroyed with their con-
tents. Mr. L. Wiltse, who owns
what is known as the McTaggart
farm on the London road, about
two miles from Clinton, lost his
lin» new bunk barn just completed
last fall. Also 29 head of cattle, 9
of which were fatted for export and
were to have been shipped on Mon-
day. A large quantity of hay, oats,
small fowl, implements, etc., were
destroyed, the total loss $3,000.00,
Insurance $1600.00. Mr Wiltse had
given an order for lightning rods
and they were to have been placed
on the building next week. The
barn belonging to J. Lannon, a
market gardener, who lives on the
Huron road, two miles west of
Clinton, was also struck and com-
pletely destroyed by fire.
Another severe electrical storm
passed over this section on Tuesday
morning between 4 and 5 o'clock.
The lightning was continues and
the roll of thunder terrific. Hail
accompanied the torrents of rain
that fell. .A number of the tele-
phone:; in the village were burnt
out and the electric lights also
suffered slight damage.
