The Moon is at last quarter on the 8th, and on the celestial equator on the 10th. This period is also at the beginning of the December solstice period and co -incident with the annual magnetic and electrical crisis that falls from the 8th to the 15th. of December. Look for falling barometer, rising temperature. growing cloudiness and decided winter storms, reaching a culmina- tion, with possibly winter lightn- ing and thunder about the 10th. The 8th to about the 15th of December—the 11th being the central day—is as a rule a period in which magnetic perturbations. electrical earth -currents. auroral lights, seismic shakes and storms. I1.., are more frequent, general and ,f, IS IT COMLN G THIS WAY? 1"a The Exeter Times of last week contained the following regarding the extension of a branch of the C. P. R. west of St. Marys. "The first meeting in the interests of the Emhro and St. Marys branch of the 0 P. R. west of St. Marys, was held at Kirkton last week. Mr. Bonis, of Rannook, one of the dir- ectors, addressed the meeting, and stated that the company would ex- tend the lines west, provided a right of way is granted by the different municipalities. The right of way has been secured from Em.lrro to St. Marys and the town of St. Marys has passed a bylaw to raise the a- mount necessary for the right of way through the town. It is pos- sible if the mnnrcipalities west of St, Marys will give the right of way the road will run through the township of Blansbard, the village of Kirkton, township of Usborne, passing through Elimville and Wins ohelsea, tho town of Exeter and the township of Stephen. The cost for such purpose through the town- ships has been estimated at x;1000 a mile and through Exeter about 85000. At the Kirkton meeting a committee was appointed. to confer with the railroad officials and oh - REMEMBER THE DATE. It has just leaked out that "Ralph Connor's" new story "The Doctor" has been secured by the Family Herald and weekly Star, of Mont- real, for exclusive newspaper publi- cation, and it will begin un January 2nd, 1907. The publisher of the Family Herald intended this to be a big Christmas surprise for their readers but the news became known thru a Toronto paper that expected to land the prize but failed. "Ralph (.Jonnor" is a name Canadians are proud of. "The Man from Glen- garry," "The Prospector" and other stories have won him a great name, and the Family Herald and Weekly Star is certainly deserving of congratulations in securing "The Doctor" for their readers. The publication of the opening chapters is put off until January 2nd in order to give all thiir sub- scribers ample time to renew be. fore that date. Now that tho news is public. there will, be a, grand rush to get on the Family Herald's mailing lists.
