A fevc days ago while the wife of
Mr. Harry Zapfe, who lives on the
Town Line, Stanley, was walking
through the swamp near her home,
she noticed an odd looking object
sticking out of the ground. She
tugged at it and when finally
brought to the surface it proved to
be the antlers of a large moose,
the animal, no doubt, in the long
ago, having laid down at this spot
and died from wounds received
from the Indians or in an encount-
er with another moose or other
wild animal,

'I'M to wire fences are becoming quite
-ItdaS numerous. In fact the occurrence
is too frequent, and the losses too
heavy to be pleasant, and the situa-
tion is aggravated by failure to ap
ply the precautions that would a-
void the losses. A ground wire
fence will ward off all danger.
Bend an end of ground wire—plain
fence wire—around the top wire of
fence and then around each sue
ceeding wire, and finally run wire
into the earth fully two feet, or
where the end will always be moist.
An iron rod sharpened at the end
will make a hole for the wire. The
job is easily done, the cost is al-
most nothing, and danger to animal
or man is avoided.

FARMERS LOOK OUT.
It is said a nun named Tremane,
who claimed to be agent for the
Manson Campbell Company, of
Chatham, manufacturers of fanning
machinery, has swindled farmers
in Hastings county. One farmer
gave him an' order for a fanning
mill and a note for $13, and then
sent him aregistered letter con-
taining the amount of the note,
The letter was received, but the
note was not returned, and the
only answer was an anonymous
letter, telling the farmer he should
know enough not to do business in
that way. Manson Campbell &
Company, say Tremane is not their
agent.
