Miss Tema Hartung of Detroit is
spending a few weeks at her home
here.
Soon the hum of the threshing
machine will be heard throughout
the land.
Mr. Wesley &hoeing, of the De-
troit Dental College, is spending
a few weeks at his home here.
Miss Dolly Hagan, of Hillsgreen,
has entered• the Clinton Hospital
and will study for a trained nurse.
Miss Addie Witwer returned
from London last Thursday, and
will spend the summer at her home
here.

Miss Gladys McNevin, formerly
of Zurich won the Peter Adamson
General Proficiency scholarship, at
the recent examinations at the
Goderich Collegiate Institute. We
extend congratulations.
Last Friday evening Mr. F. W.
Hess took his motor boat to the
lake and gave it a trial. It proved
satisfactory in eNtery way and F.
W. is highly delighted with it. He
has named it "La Belle."
The 1906 Voters' List for the
Township of Hay has been issued,
and the total number of names in
part one is 787, a decrease of 22 ;
part two contains 132 names, and.
part three 43 names. The number
of persons qualified to act as jurors
is 496.
On Thursday- last the eight
months old. child of Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. Davidson, of the Goshen Line
south, passed away. The bereaved
parents have the sympathy of their
many friends. The funeral was
held on Saturdity, interment taking

Mr. Henry Greb, wife and faMily,
of Philips, Nebraska, ‘. is visiting
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Greb, of this village, and other
relatives, at present. Mr. Greb
has been absent from Zurich for a-
bout seventeen years and notes
many changes in the people and
the place.
Mr. August 0. Ehnes, of this vil-
lage, and Mr. Sol. Hardy, of Exe-
ter, left on Monday on the home
seekers excursion to the North-,
west. Mr. Ehnes will visit his
brothers who live at Edmonton,
and Mr. Hardy will visit his daugh-
ter, Mrs. F. Rickbeil, who lives at
Loma, N. D.
Mr. Chas. "Wolper has disposed of
his house and lot, opposite the
Evangelical church to Mrs. Love -
gut, who recently returned from
Dakota, the purchase price being
$775.00. Mrs. LeVegut will move
into it shortly. Me. Wolper and
mother have moved into Mrs.
Stelck's house in the north end of
the village.
FOUND A WRECK.
Last week one day while the
fishermen of St. Joseph were on
the lake some distance out from
•Taylor's grove, one of them seen an
anchor at the bottom of the lake,
and a short distance away the
wreck of a large boat, persumably
loaded with lumber. The wrecked
boat is lying in water about 24
feet deep and the spot has been
marked. The authorities will be
notified and it is not known what
will be done in the matter. It is
thought to be a boat lost on the
lake about five or six years ago, in
which eight persons lost their lives.
GUN CLUB SHOOt.
The weekly shoot of the Gun
Club was held last Thursday even-
ing. A large number of tke mem-
bers were present aucl the race for
the medal was an interesting one,
John Schnettler captured it with a
score of eight. This is the first
time John holds the .medal and he
is rather pleased over the result.

The Misses Grenzebach of Tavi-
stock are visiting at the home of

mates here for a few weeks.

handsome driver from Mr. G.
Nicholson, of the Bronson Line.
Mr. Art Well left for London,
Monday, where be has secured a
situation with Darch & Son, har-
ness makers.
A large quantity of cherries have
been marketed in the village this
week. Fifty cents per pail is the
price paid for them.
Last Sunday was St. Swithin's
day and as it did not rain, the wise
ones say that the weather will be
very dry for forty days.
Wm. Schwalm has had some re-
pairs made to his dwelling and a.
coat of paint has greatly improved
the appearance of his neat home.
Messrs. Thomas and John Con-
sitt returned from a trip through
the Canadian West last week. They
Purchased 1120 acres of land while
there which shows that they have
confidence in the future of our
western provinces.
At the meeting of the arbitrators
held at Dashwood last Friday re-
garding the S. 5, No. 8, Hay, the
petition was dismissed, as the re-
quired number had not signed it.
The expenses in the case are quite
heavy and will likely have to be
borne by the township.
One night last week some person
or persons entered the smoke -house
of Mr. Heny Theil and stole four
large hams which had been stored.

found, but it is thought that it was

A new floor is being put into the
west room, and new desks will also
be placed in this room, which will
be used as the senior department
after the holidays. The other rooms
are being papered and re -painted,
and the appearance of the school-
house will be much improved. •

The ram which fell on Monday
was much needed, and the vegeta-
tion in general was much latefitted

Mrs. Elizabeth Triailonier' , who
live S at the south end of the village,
has a rose bush which is indeed a
••thing of beauty." It is almost
completely covered with lases and
is well worth the troublele go and

The annual report of the Sover-
eign Bank of Canada is being hand-
ed out to its many customers. T he
report shows that the Bank has
made wonderful progress during
the past year, and has gained a
str ong foothold on the confidence
of the people. The modem business
methods of this bank are largely
accountable for the increase in their
