Mrs. Leo Charlesworth is visit- ing relatives in Hamilton and other eastern points. Another car of 500 sacks of Sam- son brand cement will arrive shortly at C..Hartl eibs. Mr. L. WWilliams is visiting relatives in Buffalo and other aestern points this week. Mr. John Dumart arrived here on Saturday last, John always likes to pay his old home a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fritz attend- ed the Corriveau—Bedard wedding at the Saubie Line on Tuesday. Messrs. Yungblut & Deichert • have purchased another driver from Mr. Hy. Steinbach, of the 14th con. The regular meeting of the W. C. T. U. will be held at the home of Mrs. J. A. Williams, Monday after- noon, June 18th, at 2.30 p. m. A number of our citizens have visited the lake during the past few weeks and enjoyed themselves fiehieg. Perch fishing is an inter- esting pastime and they make a very palatable dish. Lee Spangler who foretold the disaster that visited San Francisco some five months before its happen- ing, has now prophesied the de- struction of New York city in the course of twe years by means of an earthquake. Next Thursday is Zurich's civic holiday and as a result all the business places in town will be closed. People should govern them- selves accordingly. Nearly all are making arrangements to attend the school picnic at Grand Bend on that day. BAND CONCERT. ,The concert given by the:toted kt fast Saturday evening was" -listened' to by a large crowd and wee ap- preciated by all. The band plays all new music' this season and it is of a much higher class than played last year. The band is open for all kinds of engagements, such as gar- den parties, lawn socials etc., and will furnish music for these occas- ions at reasonable rates. The Sat- urday night concerts will be con- tinued throughout the summer, and it is to be hoped that the citizens will encourage the band as much as possible, as nothing helps to enliven a town more than a good brass band. GUN CLUB SHOOT. The regular shoot of the Zurich Gun Club was held last Thursday evening. As will be seen by the score the boys are gradually pick- ing up, and should be able to shoot all around the Stephen team in the near future. Wm. G. Daring the terrific thunderstorm which passed over this section last Friday evening the 13 -year-old son of Mr. George Eisenbach, of the 14th con., Hay township, was struck by lightning and instantly killed, and another son was badly shocked but will recover. The young lads were putting the horses in the stable when the bolt of lightning struck the barn. It passed along the track in the hay mow and drop- ped down into the horse stable, ;passing out through the door. The boy that was killed was standing just outside of the door and on him the lightning performed its deadly work. The other lad was tieing up one of the horses at the time and escaped with a severe shock. The funeral was held on Sunday after- noon and was very largely attend- ed, interment taking place in the Bronson Line cemetery. The be- reaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community in their sacl bereavement. Miss Helms, Koehler, of Centralia visited at her home here over Sun- day. Mr. Arthur Benedict, wife and family, of Crediton, visited relativ- es here on Saturday last. Mr. J. F. Rickbeii has alrerdy received a large shipment of the celebrated Deering twine. Mr. Fred Rummel hard the mis- fortune to lose a valuable horse through death one day this week, Mr, John Torrance of Clinton purchased a handsome buggy from Messrs. F. Hess & Son this week, Mr. and Mrs. C. Eilber visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Chas;' Eilber. near Crediton, on Sunday last. See the new self-cleaning eave- trough in 10 foot lenghts. We are the only firm in Zurich who handle them C. Hartleib. Mr. F. M. Heath, of London dis- trict agent for the Confederation Life, was looking up business in the village this week. The senior football team played at Hensell last evening. They had intended to play the Hensall boys last Friday evening but the rain prevented them from going. Last Wednesday the wedding took place at her home in Glencoe, of Miss McCracken, who was head milliner for Mr. J. J. Merner last season, to a Mr. Langford. We extend best wishes. Mr. Henry Weil and sister, of near Tavistock, are visiting rela- tives in this vicinity. Mr. Weil is now ill with an attack of pneu- monia and is tinder the doctor's care et the home of Mr, J Deichert, Sr. Mr . Samuel Rennie returned Sat- urday night from his trip through the West. Mr. Rennie saw a large part of that greatcountry to the west of us and is loud in his praises of it. He looks as if the trip agreed with him, His daughter, Mrs. A. Stelck, and two children, of Daup las , Maxi., accompanied and will visit with relatives here for a few months. An Orangeville editor says he has two subscribers who frequently imbibe and every time they get a jag on they come in and pay a year in advance for the paper. One of them is now credited up to Jan- uary, 1946. While opposed to the treating habit on general principal, we would not mind buying a few drinks for a few people we know if it would have that effect.—Ex. The Seaforth races Will be ' held on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Last Thursday' evening a membcr of the Plymouth Brethren preached on the street corner. '` Mr. Jos. Regier, of the Goshen Line south, is attending the June court at Godericfh AS' a juror, A large number from this section are attending the excursion to the Model Farm at Gluelpii to -day, Mr. J. W. Ortwein'aand fancily. of Hensall, visited at, the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Wagner, on Sunday last. Theodore Heideman, who was taken to Goderich on :,a, cornmital for theft, has been. Iet off on suspended sentence. Mr. J. J. Merner's new stable on his lot is fast nearing cornpleiion. The interior is being fated out in a convenient and up-to-date way. The strawberry season will be here again in a few weeks. The crop is going to be a small one and parties should leave their orders early in order to obtain their sup- ply. Chris. Eilber. Henry Volland, jr., had a suc- cessful raising last Friday evening. Telegraph 00., started out to find where the break was. He eventually got to Hensall and found the breakage within the limits of that village.
