don on Wednesday on a buying
trip.
The tower on the fire hall has
been fixed and the bell can now bo

is visiting relatives on the 14th

Public School Inspector Tom will
visit the Z. P. school next Wednes-

Mr. Louis Kraft, of the Goshen
Line, Stephen, has purchased a lot
opposite the Fair Grounds and will
likely erect a handsome residence
on it next summer.

Quarterly services will be held
in the Evangelical church here net
Saturday and Sunday. Rev. L. H
Wagner, presiding elder, of Berlin
will conduct the services.
George Smith is still confined to
his bed on account of illness. He
was recovering, but left the house
too soon and had a relapse. We
hope to see him around in his
usual good health soon.

News and Star, have decided to
advance their subscription price to

days to take charge of his business
in Goderieh. We wish him success.
Mr, John Eckstein is very sick at
his father's home. We hope he may
soon recover.
Several of our people spent the
24th in Crediton, while others went
to Exeter.
Mr. Henry Willert was in Credi-
ton on Saturday last.
Jacob Brenner has moved with
his family to Stratford where he
has obtained work in a factory.
Mr. S. Ireland intends moving
with his family to Stratford in the
near future.
Miss Edighoffer of Blake spent
the past week here with her broth-
er George.
Mrs. 0. Miller spent a few clays
last week with friends on the Gos-
hen line.. ,
Mrs. Rothermal after spending a
feW weeks with friends at Stratford
and Hainburg, returned home ma
Friday night.
Mrs. Jacob Hartleib, who has
been on an extended visit. with
friends at Pittsburg, returned home
on Friday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Lindenfelcl
spent Sunday with friends in the
village.
The Y. P, A. here held their
t annual rally -day on Sunday. There
was the usual program and a col-
lection in aid of the missionary
CaUSO.
Emanuel Ehlers spent 24th with
friends at Milverton.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Truemner of
the state of Ohio are at present in
the village visiting the former's
sister, Mrs. W. Shrum.
Peter Mclsaac made several good
sales of furniture last week. It
pays to advertise, and as Peter car-
ries an up-to-date stock people can
get what they want.
The annual meeting of the West
Huron Teachers' Association will
be held at Guelph on Friday and
Saturday, June 15th and 1Gth. The
annual excursion to the Guelph
Agricultural College will be held
on the 15th which will give all a
chance to attend the meeting as
well as to see the beautiful govern-
ment property at Guelph. The fare
from Hensall is only $1,25. Excur-
sion train leaves Hensall at 7.34
and arrives at Guelph at 10 o'clock.
Tickets good on any train, return-
ing Friday or Saturday,
Death of Mrs. Gischler.—The
death took place on Friday last at
the Evangelical parsonage of Mrs.
Mary Gischler, mother of Rev. A.
D. Gischler, at the advanced age of
71 years, 1 month and. 3 days. The
deceased had been in failing health
for some months, and her death
was due to a general wearing away
of the system.. She was a native of
Germany and came to this country
in 1884, settling in Waterloo coun-
ty. Tier husband predeceased her
twenty-seven years ago, She was
of a patient and loving disposition
and was much respected by all who
knew her. Two sons, Rev. A. D.
GischIer, pastor of the Evangelical
church in this village, and Rev. E.
M, GischIer, pastor of the Evange-
lical church at Golden Lake sur-
vive her, The funeral was held on
l'lfonday afternoon, FRC. L, FI.
Wagner, of Berlin, conducting the
4ervices, the remains being interr-
ed in the Bronson Line cemetery.

Farmers in this vicinity are busy
preparing the land for roots and
beans. The latter is largely grown
throughout these parts: Nearly
every farmer sows from five to ten
acres and the,yield cannot be bet-
ter, This seizVgorm their will be more
grown than ever before.
The telephone line is now coni-
pleted to St. Joseph. Why not have
a branch line join our village with
that, place and all other large towns
and cities in Ontario.
Mr. Tuf6.elcl Ayotte of Sandusky,
Mich., is at present on business in

Joseph ltau and A. Sreenan at-
tended the Court of Revision in
Varna last Monday.
Mr. John Brisson spent the past
week with his daughter, Miss
Olarisso Brisson in Merlin.
Mr. E. J. Gelinas spent Sunday
evening with friends on the Bron-
son Line,
Mr. John .Ducharmc visited rela-
tives and friends in Stratford. last

tractor, is at present building a
wall under Mr. Chas. Laport's barn.
Mr. anil Mrs. Elie Duoharme
spent the, past week with relatives
in Stratford.
Many improvements are again
being made on farms throughout
this vicinity.
Miss Pearl Walsh is at present
visiting under the parental roof in
Crediton.
Mrs, D. Ayotte of Sandusky.
Mich., is at present visiting re-
latives in our burg.
Miss Josephine Ducharme is at
present engaged. as dressmaking at
Jos. Ducharme. Miss Dncharme is
an expert at the trade as her work
is highly recommended.
Miss Mary Sreenan who is at
present learning the dressmaking
in Exeter is now visiting relatives
and friends here.
Miss Gertrude Murry who has
learned the dressmaking in Exeter,
has arrived home.
Miss Elizabeth Gelinas of Dover
South is at' present visiting rela-
tives and friends in our burg.
