Once upon a time, as the story
goes, a fox and a groundhog ~vent
nut for a walk, and their talk
ultimately drifting on t6 the
subject of the various schemes
which even in that day were being
presented to a credulous public by
which they might get rich quick,
the fox, recognizing the increasing
interest of the groundhog in. the
subject, remarked: t' Would you
like, nay boy to get in on the
ground floor of an absolutely sure
thing?" and the groundhog's readi-
ness to embrrce such an exceptional
opportunity being immediately
rentnmuniceted, the fox said : "All
right then. you have only to open
your mouth and the plum will fall
into it --there you are 1'' and suiting
the action to the word, he pointed
to a juicy piece of meat which was
hanging from a bush near by, As
1 the groundhog reached for it, the
carefully ooncealed trap, to which
tho fox had ail along been leading
Ihim, was sprung, and the fox
walked off with the meat. The
foxes which are on your track
to day are more numerous than
ever, and the number of get -rich -
quick schemes with which you aro
beset is ,also increasing. The
ground flooplan is worked over
time, and the "fox" in ninety-nine
times out of one hum:trod walks off

With good prices prevailing for

a large measure of our rapidly in-

year has been one of almost unpre-

to note the increasing interest
taken in all branches of agricultur-

general commendation of the
efforts of the government to make
agriculture more remunerative and
attractive.

makes an admirable reply to the
statement of Sir Edmund Walker

The latter, it will be remembered,
expressed the fear that farmers
could not trade more freely with
the United States without being
led into annexation.
Mr Larkin, in reply, says that he
himself has been doing business
with the United States for sixteen
years and that he now exports
many hundreds of goods annually
to that country. Still he rinds he

Sir Edmund walker is connected is
